    BMC Filter in

Just installed my BMC filter that arrived from Italy today.

For anyone interested, it's just like the K&N, as far as being pre-oiled cotton gauze filter. However, I think the build quality is a step up, and it appears to have a slightly larger overall filter area than the K&N.

Anyways, it dropped in and fit perfectly, no fitment issues whatsoever.

Took it for a drive to let the ECU adapt a little.

First impressions: I can hear the intake, I really never heard it before. The throttle response seemed better, and it looked like my mpg's had a slight uptick.

So overall, I'm happy with the product.

    Oh, part number is 279/01

Would a filter like this or the K&N one help a 3.2 at all?

    Re: BMC Filter in

^ I think the verdict is you don't really gain any performance, but some feel better throttle response.

You will hear a low/loud growl when you get on it though, which sounds pretty good with the 3.2.

    Re: BMC Filter in

i've got k&n on my 3.2. definitely can hear a little more growl (which sounds great). jury still out on improved mpg, but maybe a slight improvement (.5 mpg or less).

the fitment is good, but it's crazy how much thinner the k&n filter is than the stock piece (total width).

    that's a lot of parantheticals...

I really like it. I have never had a car that has sooooo many mods available for it. The 2.0T seems to have options out the wazooo from multiple companies. The M5 had lots too, but each were very costly. But it seemed to take forever to get any items to market for the E60 version. Took 3 years before my favorite exhaust manufacturer had a fitment for the M5.

My mileage is improving, which I like, and now with the APR 91 and new filter, it seems to really be helping, unless I stomp on it (which is frequent).

I think I will be getting the test pipe next as I still have a little dead spot coming off the line in 1st gear. 2nd and 3rd both pull nicely once that turbo kicks in.

I tried to order one of these a few months ago, and the only place I could find that sold it refunded my money because they said they couldn't get them anymore. Where did you get one? I'd rather have it than the BMC, but it sounds like BMC is better than K&N

Personally i would wait and do an exhaust and testpipe at the same time. With both the car has a really deep sound but with test pipe and stock exhaust the car sounds like a fart can. Im happy to hear your enjoying your new ride.
