Hey just got my car about a month ago and i want to do a few small things b4 i jump into some more heavy modding being that I got Bills up the ass now. But anyways my question is how much does it cost to to get that silver lining around my windows instead of the rubber? For all the search nuts i would but i dont know the name of this "mod" but anyways i think it looks nice and would compliment my brilliant black.. Thanks for any help!

    Re: Small Mod

I think that is fairly expensive since you have to buy the moldings from the dealer. All 1.8's got the black and the 3.0's got the chrome, so you would have to order the 3.0's moldings which may cost a pretty penny. I say chip it, the best $499, I ever spent!

I'd do the tint, it would be less than $300. Let me call the dealer and see how much the parts are...

^Hey, I tried to tell him...I think it is silly to spend $400 on the chrome trim, before labor, I'm sure the whole job would cost ~$550 or so, if done right, that's the chip. Maybe, OP you should have gotten the 3.0 instead?

    Re: Small Mod

This is why you buy the USP from the start... cause you get the looks immediately. I'd forget the chrome trim all together. Black looks really good. Go performance, do like they say and chip it. Cause getting chrome trim from the dealer is gonna cost you an ass load for a fairly useless mod. I went to just get a replacement black rubber weather stripping for around the windows, and just the lower inside section was $120. If i were to have done just one window i would have paid over $400, considering each piece was the same cost. But i doubt they were cause the inside bottom piece is one of the smaller pieces. Now multiply that by all 4 windows.... not worth it dude.

haha yeah basically everything but the chrome trim would be worth it lol. Dude, have you done any of the free mods yet??? cause if you want to do some small mods before you get into heavy modding, one really easy free mod that does quite a bit for no real effort is changing the badges, either painting them or taking them off. Or you can cruise the DIY threads on a4mods.com, those are awesome.

Clear corner mod is free and seems easy enough to do, just not quite ready to do it.

^^ yeah, and joey modding your lights. If you follow the instructions on a4 mods it looks pretty simple. Except for the dremmel part where he cuts some material off, i've never used a dremmel so i don't know if i'm quite up to that part. But everything else looks pretty simple. I can't wait until i get some free time to get started on those DIY's. Nothing better than free or really cheap mods.

The Dremel is like a bigger clumsier dentist drill. I would suggest getting one of the cordless ones, not as powerful as the wired cousins, but much easier to use. I've used Dremels to cut springs when I was young and dumb, trim rear aprons for exhausts, etc.

LOL, like a mill saw, you mean?

It is really a lot like drawing a line where you want to cut. it will cut almost any thing like a hot knife to butter (well, maybe not armor, but that's what the plasma cutter is for), as along as you use the right attachment.

i think i'm just more worried about fucking up the headlight assembly than using the actual tool. I'm sure the tool is easy right? Especially on just a flat piece of metal haha.

First of all i won't get it at the stealership... Around where im from I can basically get it for free if i speak to the right person. But aside from all that im pretty sure i can both for under 100 and tints for 100... I Just want to get my car lookin nice and i won't do much performace mods. I'll spend here and there but I'm pretty much happy with my car. I live in nyc so traffic and cops won't let me enjoy much of the performance mods unless i venture out to the surrounding towns. But i want my car to be unique in style b4 i get to raping people on the streets.

^^ haha i'm pretty sure living in NYC you'll get arrested for raping someone on the street anyway. Lots of people out all the time lol.

But if you think you can get it for cheap talking to the right person why'd you start the thread? Obviously you're gonna do it no matter how many people say it's a bad idea. So you should talk to those people who can get it cheap for you, or like one guy said, get the 3.0.

haha damn, calling him out! No it's not initiation, since i've been on here i've noticed a trend and i'm sure most of the others have too. I've only been on here for a couple months and i've already noticed it, i can't imagine how annoying it's gotta be for those long time members. People always post threads asking for opinions on things when it's completely pointless to. I don't know how many times i've heard a senior member say "it's up to YOU about what YOU want to do because it only matters if YOU like it" lol. Because 100% of the time people get 50/50 hate/love opinion posts and they pretty much always go with what they liked anyway regardless of how many people say they don't like it. So a lot of these threads are just a waste of time. Just do what you want to do if you think you have the resources because it's gonna end up that way anyway. No need to ask opinions you won't consider.

Actually i would be more worried about fucking up your headlight assembly due to your temper rather than the dremel. When "Joey modding" their headlights, a lot of people get frustrated when it comes to using the heat gun and picks for 3 hours and proceed to huck their headlights accross the garage into a wall. Surprisingly, this has proved successful on occasion, but otherwise it's been damaging.

Anyways, the dremel is easy and you'll use it on a ton of stuff in the future i'm sure. Don't worry about that.

haha wouldn't that be great to just chuck your headlights across a room and by chance not do any damage but knock your corners out lol. But yeah i just need to borrow one from my friend and i'll probably practice on just modifying little things for fun just to get some practice at it. Then i'll get started on the headlight thing. I don't want the first time i ever cut into anything with a dremel be on something important and by some evil twist of fate ruin something. I don't know i could just be paranoid or over thinking something that's easier than i think.
