Yeah, I'm not really too sure when to get my first oil change? Should I wait untill the 5K Service or do it now? I'm at 3K...sounds like a noobie question, I know but i can't find it by searching and I've tried to look in all the manuals but can't find an answer...

    Re: Oil Change?

I think you're a bit late actually. Myself, I prefer 2000 mile changes. Some say it's crazy, some say I am personally responsible for our nation's dependence on foreign oil, but I like to feel safe. If you really want to be careful, I'd say every 1500 miles, but that may be pushing it.

Damn, and I thought I was single handedly responsible for our dependence on foreign oil changing it at every 5K (but considering it's synthetic, kinda makes it a null argument, doesn't it?).

Well the main reason why I'm asking is because my oil light just came on and i was told every 5K miles and wait until the service... so should I just get it changed tomorrow or wait till 5K service? I'm due in 1400 miles anyways.

    Re: Oil Change?

So you have 3600 miles and an oil light?

    1) STOP
    2) Check oil
    3) add oil as needed (synthetic)
    4) figure out why oil low

go to the dealership and have them top it off for you... you aren't pushing your new car too hard are you? Your first 5k miles and maybe 10k is crucial

    Re: Oil Change?

Take it to the dealer an have them inspect the car and see why the oil light turned on so soon. They might just have you do the 5K maintenance anyway. As for oil intervals, I'd adhere to the schedule (5K and every 10K thereafter) UNLESS your car is heavily modified and if you're hard on your car.
