    Springs?

I really want to lower my B6 S4 but can't afford coilovers right now. I was thinking of getting H&R springs but don't want a bouncy ride or a squeeky car. Anyone put springs on their car and have some pics? Should I just save up for coilovers? I don't track my car by the way. Just looking for a nice lowered look. Any feedback would be helpful thanks.

    Re: Springs?

before i did my coils i had H&R springs with the stock showcks the car drove just like stock but lower. The only reason i went with coils was becuase i wanted a much bigger drop. if your in NYC and didnt buy the springs you can buy mines im selling both shocks and springs for cheap

Not to rain on anyone's parade but i wouldnt advise going with just lowering springs... especially you being from NY. save for the coilovers or find some used ones.

Here's a pic of mine. I have H&R springs and Koni Yellow shocks. You definitely should upgrade shocks if you are planning on springs and not coilovers.

I used to think this but why pay more money for coils if I will never adjust ride height or track the car? I think my drop is perfect and the shocks are adjustable so I have it set to my liking.

If you are just going to get springs, then "do it right the first time" and upgrade shocks at the same time.

    Re: Springs?

Yes - get springs and shocks at the same time. The higher spring rates that you will get with after market springs will equate to a bouncier ride if the shock (damper) is not equal to the task. In other words, the stock shocks (because they were made to work in unison with the stock springs) will not be able to effectively control the compression and rebound associated with the new higher rate spring.

    Re: Springs?

it all depends on how long you're going to keep the car. if you're in a lease there's no need to do the shocks. the ride with stock shocks is the same as with the konis. im in agreement with AndreNY here.

well, you do have a point there...just springs would be no good. but springs and shocks would be the way to go...I, personally will need to adjust height, so I would do coils for snow times...

I'm debating doing springs for both summer and winter. You think a 1.25 inch drop will make that much of a difference in the snow?

    Re: Springs?

I'm running the H&R springs with Koni Sport adjustables. The ride is awesome and for the kind of driving I do I saw no reason to spend the money on coil-overs. I garage my car all winter, so there really is no need to adjust the suspension height.

go c/os...that way you can raise up to the top for winter. Then lower as much as you want for summer. My tires and wheel wells had tons of snow left in them with only 5 inches on the ground...here are some pics from Mammoth, earlier this year.

    Re: Springs?

thats pretty gnarly. I go to school in upstate new york so we see snow like that. But the difference is that our roads are plowed, so the only difference I see in the height of the car comes from the extra 1.5 inches of snow i'll have to dig to get my car out of parking spots....

Maybe since you're in a new car so the new stock shocks can still handle the stiffer spring rate and lowered height, at least for a while. I'm thinking the shocks on an older car with some miles on it won't be able to take it, though.

Koni sports (aka Koni Yellows) and the are adjustable

I hope not. I live near Philly and we occassionally get some decent snowfalls. Roads are plowed but sometimes they don't get to it in time for the rush hour commute so I'll still be in some fresh snow conditions. I don't think it will be that big of a deal and when there's a lot of accumulation, I'll just drive the wife's SUV.
