    With different software, yes.

With VAG-Com. I'm fairly sure the answer is NO.

You can use the cable but need different software to read the ECU. There are OBD2 programs for sale but mostly just read fault codes. VAG - Volkswagen Audi Group

I can give it a try as I usually have a 330i come over on a daily basis.

you should be able to pull generic obd2 codes using the "obdII scanner" button or whatever it is called on the normal vagcom window. there are certain manufacture specific codes that it may not pull or give you the definition for. but short answer, yes, you should be able to use it to pull obd2 codes. that is the whole point of obd2. so you dont have to have a specific cable/software for each different make.

Generica OBD-2 features are only available for people with the latest version of VAG-Com (which requires having a genuine Ross-Tech cable); so if you have an eBay cable, you won't be able to scan any other make/model cars since you are stuck on version 409.

Maybe, I've pulled a code off of a Ford Escape. then tried it on a jeep and it wouldn't work. I think it might work just to pull the code.

Re: Can you Vag-Com a BMW?

Using the VAG-COM on non VAG vehicles is hit-and-miss.

I was actually able to get it to work quite well in the "generic" mode for my Volvo in Europe; a pleasant suprise. Could read most info, run logs, etc. Much more than I had expected, and Ross-Tech was suprised since the model year was not required to be fully OBDII.

In anycase, just plug it in and see what happens.

Really? Because they don't even list that as feature on Ross-Tech's site until like version 50x.

really. and there is a cracked version of 50x floating around as well. so ebay cables arent limited to 409 either.
