I am wondering if all turbo cars burn a bit of oil? My mechanic told me but another guy said they do not.

    Thanks

Re: Do All Turbo Cars Burn Oil

My oil level stays exactly the same every oil change. I check it a few times between changes.

    I'm at 66k miles.

Yup those who say 1.8t's eat alot of oil have issues directly related to poor delivery or pickup. My stock 1.8 and my built 2.0 never vary a noticable amount really.

That could be a bad valve guide dripping a little bit into the combustion chamber.

I've got a bad PCV "puck" valve that is dripping a little oil in front of the turbo so it smokes and stumbles on startup and is sometimes hard to start. Other than that obvious problem it hasn't ever burned any oil.

I think i am in the same boat as you, my PCV valve might be clogged or leaking, i will have my mechanic check it out or is their is way i can do it myself?

    Thanks

    Thanks
Time to change mechanics and get a technician.

Some of the guys that build race engines claim that their engines will use more than a normal amount of oil. This is b/c they build them "loose" in comparison to a OE setup.
As far as how much oil you're using, that kinda depends on the engine's condition. Rule of thumb is 1qt used per oil change. Personally I don't like to see more than 10% of the capacity burned off during the 3K between LOF's.

You shouldn't burn too much oil, most people can't see a drop between oil changes

I used a little when I was using Castrol Syntec. Since I have used the ELF I haven't noticed any oil usage. My Dads brand new Passat wagon 2.0T was down 1.5L the other day after only having the oil changed at the dealer 2 months ago. They told him its normal... right.

    that doesn't sound right....

some gasket or something must be aligned wrong or something for that much to be burning...

Re: Do All Turbo Cars Burn Oil

Okay so today i found out why my car was burning oil, my turbo might be going. I found oil in the pipe that goes from the engine to the turbo, or intercooler. That is definately not normal correct?

    Thanks

I am not sure how much oil is in the intercooler but in the pipes is a fair amount.
