    Please don't.

The optics behind using HID bulb in a halogen housing is terrible. It will blind other drivers because the light gets scattered everywhere.

I think you can remove the halo rings. In fact, you need to open the housing to do the clear corner, so you can get rid of the halo rings also.

I have a concern, here in México we have a lot of cars sold directly from dealers with HID and no projector housings, like volvos, or nissan or toyota minivans. I see no glare to worry about, so may be there is a trick for installing HID in a non projector housing and with no glare.

    Re: HID Upgrade?

thats because those cars have reflectors in the headlight engineered for hid light, and the bulbs are D2r bulbs, which have a black coating on a portion of the bulb which stops light from going where it shouldnt, hid kits however, dont have that coating.

ohh and i agree. someone needs to buy those depo's so we can see them!

Exactly what Bryson said, who seems to be our resident lighting expert...

The optics of the housings for those headlights are designed for HID bulbs, which are designed differently than the conversion kits.

A lot of cars now-a-days have HID bulbs in reflector housings, but those housings are designed for those bulbs and do not scatter the light all over the place. It really is all about the optics of it.

hey, um, Fathom? yeah. ever try that thing called reading other threads in the forum? cause seriously. there's been a thread on this EXACT SAME TOPIC alive for a few days now. Click here. amazing. that thread isn't even on a different page:

it even has PICTURES of the beams of those DEPOs, including why they suck and what you can do to fix them (replace HID lens).

The light get's reflected within the reflectors of the housing... just like the standard halogen light would. It has been shown that you can get a good beam pattern with xenon HID kits in halogen housings without blinding people. A member in this forum was nice enough to post pictures of his car's HID in reflectors pointed at his garage to show you the cutoff point... the look sucks... I prefer getting DEPO or talking to lowestA4 to get projectors though... but it's still very doable.
