Stasis SS & VMR V708 setup?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I finally saved up some cash to throw on the car (not literally lol).
So I'm looking to get Stasis Street Sports c/o's and a set of VMR RS4 reps.
My car has the stock suspension so yeah the coilovers are a must before the wheels. I've never had aftermarket wheels or even aftermarket suspension so I don't know what to expect in terms of ride and comfort.
    If we were to say:

    stock suspension stiffness = 5
OEM sport suspension stiffness = 6
Stasis SS default setting stiffness = ???
    Stasis SS with 18"=???
    Stasis SS with 19"=???

And I'm torn on what size wheels to get. 18" seems like a safe bet and they look pretty decent. The 19" look better but this car is my daily driver so what do you think? Is there a noticeable difference in ride quality with 18s and 19s? Will I have rubbing issues w/ 4 ppl in the car with the default Stasis height? Are there any other pros or cons between each? Any input is highly appreciated as i am a complete newbie when it comes to wheels and suspension.

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help!

depends on how the roads in your area are
also check the tire prices, I think 18's are more expensive the 19 - or atleast they used to be

Actually 19's have more expensive tires and less selection than 18's because they are less common. Witht hat said, I would still go with the 19's, I daily drive on 20's with the rebound on my coilovers set to 75%. Your ride out the box on the Stasis will be very much comparable to stock. You will feel some bumps a little more than others because you have less sidewall but that's not bad to deal with. Lastly, you will probably rub with 4 people in the car on dips in the road, I am not positive because I would never attempt such a thing. Three people in my car at most but I ususally only ride 2 deep, passengers FTL!!!

Well first of all I don't want to spoil any of your plans but if you enjoy the ride of your vehicle and you do not track the car don't get them!!....... but first let me explain my situation I had the stock 4x4 suspension and had to get rid of that so I went out and purchased Eibach Sport Springs and had those put on my stock struts. It rode great and I was very satisfied on the 18"s, a little sportier ride but still comfortable and looked great, however I had the money and went on this forum and was told that the stock struts would go out very quickly. (which I'm sure that is true) I had the money and purchased Stassis Coilovers, I believe I got the more expensive track coilovers but to be honest I thought I was getting the Stassis SS. I also have 18" VMR Rs4 Reps. I cannot stand the ride of my car!! I had a service tech that is on these forums as well drive it and he confirmed he couldn't stand the ride either (by the way he just has H&R springs on stock suspension). It is so stiff you feel EVERY bump in the road very harshly, like you don't have a suspenion at all and when there is even a little imperfection like light rolls in the pavement you bounce around like a bobblehead. Just friggin horrible not to mention I hate to drive the car. Paid $1500 for something I cannot stand. I am getting them taking outta the car tomorrow and putting my Eibach Springs back on the car and I can't wait. Have the car at Audi now getting warranty work done so I have had loaner for the past week. I'm picking it up tonight dropping it off at the perfomance shop and getting these friggin coilovers taken out. I'm not tracking this thing and just wanted a better look. Too bad I thought after 2000 miles I would get use to them....afraid not the longer I had them on the more I couldn't stand them, so I burnt $1500 dollars on something I didn't need. Once again I think I have the track Stassis so I don't know if the SS rides different, but if I do have the SS and your thinking about getting them and you don't race or don't track, putting lowering springs gives you a sportier ride and you keep all of the comfort yet sportier. I was just like you this spring so I don't want you to make the same mistake. I say go with the lowering spring cut your cost and be done with it. I know if I read this from someone on a forum I wouldn't know what my next move is but I hope this helps.

Just want to add that the service tech I was speaking about works at my Audi dealership and as an A4 himself.

Wow that really sucks man, I hope they're Stasis Track Sports. Did you get them used because maybe the other settings like dampers and shock stiffness were tampered with? Because I can't imagine even the most extreme racer would be happy with shitty suspension like that! If you find out please let me know.

Can anybody with Stasis SS comment on this please?

Re: Stasis SS & VMR V708 setup?

i have koni coilovers, which are essentially stasis ss. set at the middle level of dampening i can just barely tell the difference from the stock sport suspension. if you say stock sport suspension = 6, then my coils = 6.05.

you can make it stiffer if you want, but it's totally up to you (the beauty of coilovers).

get yourself some, and some new wheels and you won't regret it.

Thanks man, No, bought them brand new. It is a performance shop in Illinois named GRD Racing, I asked for Stassis coilovers (because that is the company Audi seems to rely on) without any knowledge of the difference they said ok and I got these. I can problably guarantee they are the Track Sports because they are god awful for me and everyone else with the SS seems not to complain.

Re: Stasis SS & VMR V708 setup?

Ok I want to get this straight:

    Thicker tire sidewall:
+ better ride/safer against tire blowouts etc..
    - Rub issues more likely with 19s on lowered suspension.

    19s vs 18s:
    + looks
    - easier to bend/crack. Heavier and harsher ride.

Is that correct? And am I missing anything else?

Re: Stasis SS & VMR V708 setup?

I have STaSIS Street Sports. The ride is nice. It's sporty, but not unbearable. When I had them put on at the stock settings it was a little bouncy. I've recently had the fronts raised to 25" an the rears sit at about 25 and 1/8". Since then, the ride has been much better. The car handles better too (in general). I would recommend getting an RS4 rear sway bar as well. Make a huge difference in the handling of the car.

sounds about right. wider tires also make you more likely to rub when lowered, depending on the wheel offset.

you ready to dive in yet?

Re: Stasis SS & VMR V708 setup?

Thanks for the feedback guys. :)

As I was searching the forums I came across this:

"....here are the Stasis recomendations for alignments.
    Conservative Street Setup
Between 1/16 and 1/32 TOE IN front and 1/32 TOE IN rear
Ride height at 25.875” front and 26.000” rear
    (–1.0 camber front)"

So after extensive searching I'm leaning towards getting the VMR RS4 reps (18 x 8.5” / + 38mm) with 245/40/18 and the Stasis SS set to the conservative street setup (25.875” front and 26.000” rear). Do you guys think I'll have any issues with this setup?

Stiffness from 18" to 19" is not much of a difference. Anything from 17" and lower you will.
