Can someone explain a "splitter" to me?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I did a little researching and this is what i've come up with:

-used to create downforce on the front end of the car
-used to enhance the front end looks
-used to protect front bumper from scrapes and rock chips

    anything else?

I currently have a 2005 USP and am looking for a splitter. Is there one made for our cars that fits the USP front perfectly? From what I gathered most splitters out there are "universal" meaning they fit many different A4 front bumpers..

To create downforce on the front should there be no space for air to get threw between the splitter and bumper or is there a small space needed, or it doesn't matter?

I noticed they make a Carbon Fiber splitter. What is it exactly? Just a plastic or metal piece wrapped in CF composite?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to educate myself on all the cool things we can do to our cars.

^^correction not only for looks my friend:

technically a splitter directs the on coming air through the lower part of ur car causing it to build downforce so u have more traction and grip, the vinny mod is only for looks, and unless u race u wont feel a difference

I agree. I said looks because unless on a race car their is no benefit for a daily driver type car.

I saw the "vinny splitter mod" when I searched, I'm looking for something a bit more stable. No offense to vinny, it looks great while it lasts but it kind of looks like it'll fall off after a week.

So to create downforce the air has to travel between the splitter and bottom of the bumper? That makes sense.

Anyone have any input on the CF?
