new stuff review (034 mounts, southbend clutch)

I have about 300 miles on the new engine now and all of the mounts are finally settling in. I installed the 034 track density engine and transmission mounts. The shifting seems to be a lot more solid with barely any drive line slop. The engine does seem to be more apparent and shake and vibrate more, especially the steering wheel. I would NOT recommend these for a daily driver unless you like an abrupt ride. I drive 45 miles each way to work and cruising on the highway it feels great, but then again I am a freak and track junky so I love the feel. Great buy and worth every penny!!

I also put a new Southbend DXD stage 4 clutch in with a new light weight flywheel. This clutch is awesome. it was really hard to engage at first but its wearing in nicely. I haven't launched hard on it yet, but it was definitely worth the money also. Shifting is smooth, but could be more fluent. I think once the pressure plate wears in a bit more it will engage easier and more consistently.

    just my two cents.

Do they not start to settle down a bit after some driving a while?

My SB stage 4 is wearing in nicely as well, has a very comfy feel. At first it was just crazy abrupt, now I can do some easy launches on it no problem, or I can spin the tires with ease.

Re: new stuff review (034 mounts, southbend clutch)

I'd like to ride in a car that has the Track Density mounts. I have the Street Density, and I'd like to compare.

The clutch should "settle in" around the 1000mile mark for how many miles you drive. Highway doesn't really help break in, it rather prolongs it.

If it makes you feel any better my roommate in college drove my car for a weekend while I was out of town, ~175 miles after I installed my new F/W and clutch. He decided it was broken in enough and launched it hard. He didn't tell me this until after I launched it a couple times, when I believed the clutch was broken in.
I guess it's a matter of opinion and lessons learned on when it's broken in or not.

Thought they were track ones. So the Track density ones feel like tractor with misfires on bad motor mounts.

probably something like that. the highway vibrations are nice and suttle. i really dont even use my radio anymore. just like hearing the exhaust and turbo spool. its nice to feel the car pull hard when accelerating onto the highway and just passing anything and everything...
    well maybe except a Z06..... :)

The very few times I drove your car(into and out of the trailer) it felt pretty smooth at idle.

Have to remember that a stock engine with the mounts are going to feel much different then a "balanced" engine with good tuning. Most of the vibration people feel is caused by a unbalanced motor/tune. I run solid engine mounts, solid passenger mount, a solid metal L bracket on the driverside and just about zero vibrations at idle.

my car is fine at idle... the no interior really transmits the noise and makes it feel worse, plus the ziptied stuff everywhere rattles

Even a well balanced VR6 motor in my girls MK4 has some MINOR vibrations with the Dog Bone Mounts, just about as much as my car with a APR Snub.

That would make it nearly impossible for me to drive by the seat of my ass now wouldn't it, but yet thats exactly how I drag race all the cars I drive.

With the solid mounts, my first built 2 liter (non balanced) the dash would shake very hard at idle, on the next build the engine was balanced and now the dash has no vibration coming from it at all.
