VAG-COM Freezing, then "No Response From Controller" any thoughts?

    So here is the issue:

    Car: 2000 Audi A4 1.8T
Cable: the blue Ebay usb cable
VAG Software: ross-tech software version 409.1
Computer: Laptop on XP all other programs closed and running in Windows Classic mode, with AC power adapter plugged in

I have the com ports set, and its test fine, I can read fault codes and clear them, but after clearing them the VAG-COM program will freeze and give me an error: "No Response From Controller", and the program now is unusable. Why might it be loosing its connection? The blue led is still on. Its almost as if the software only runs for a certain amount of time then freezes, because sometimes i can scan the codes, but it will give me the "no response error" before i can clear them. Then i cannot close the program, or force quit it, unless i unplug the USB cable from the computer.

Has anyone else had a similar issue? And if so what did you do to fix it? Or does anyone else have any ideas?

I had a similar problem when my abs module was going out. Try unplugging the connector on the abs module, then reconnecting. then after your done vag'ing just plug it back in. Takes about 2 seconds to unplug it. Might not fix your problem, but it did mine. Then again it could be your vag-com software?

Also if your using the vagcom software on Windows Vista, you need to right click then run as administrator. Mine was super unstable when not running it as the administrator. You can set the default to always run this program as admin mode.

edit: nevermind on the vista part, reread it and saw you are using xp
    Hooray for boobies!

the generic USB driver for shareware version isn't the most reliable when used with VAG-COM.

You may have to restart the computer.
