is this what a test pipe should sound like?

don't know if this sounds normal or not, all test pipe videos are from outside the car. (if this isn't what it's supposed to sound like, then I think it's my manifold gasket... didn't replace it on gtrs install)

Don't mind the quality, its god awful

Also, i keep adding coolant and water to my reservoir, and every time i drive a little more just disappears. Just air in the system working its way out?

EDIT: no more coolant warning, and the car wasn't heated up because i just turned it on

yeah I didn't even think of the gasket until i started installing, and thought... of course they wouldn't supply you with one.

yeah i have an engine bay video, sounds... like an engine, nothing odd in there. Not going to bother posting because 1 it takes forever and 2 sounds fine.

If there was air in my coolant lines it would eventually work its way out?

Yes it will. Thats the beauty of the coolant system. Driving the car will self-bleed the coolant system.

But on top of the intake manifold, on that coolant line you will see a screw. Removing that will speed up the process, as the car idles

Re: is this what a test pipe should sound like?

alright coolant problem seems to be working itself out nicely.

Now for the sound. First off, I can hear it waaaay better from inside the car than outside. It doesn't always do it on idle, doesn't always do it while driving. It seems pretty random. On several occasions i rev'd to 5k without a sound other than the sex that is ns exhaust + test pipe. I believe it is something rattling around in the engine bay.

Can't be a spark plug as far as I know... the car runs way too smoothly

I have a feeling it is the sai pump return bouncing against the turbo itself.. the bracket did not align correctly so i left it hanging there..

Does this seem like a good route to start trouble shooting? can't have a look at anything until tomorrow

Re: is this what a test pipe should sound like?

hmm could be a blown exhaust gasket i had that happen it sounded real shitty. stick your hand down near the hot side and check for any pufts of air near the exhaust manifold.

Re: is this what a test pipe should sound like?

My vote is that little downpipe bracket didn't get re-attached. Judging by how much louder the "banging" or "rattling" sound got when you brought the passenger side footwell into view.

Re: is this what a test pipe should sound like?

yeah, but, I'm saying it can't be a leak, more like something rattling now. if it were a leak I'd think it would be worse while under load, and it doesn't even do it every time i'm at idle. In fact the last time i drove "harder" it didn't make any noise.

Re: is this what a test pipe should sound like?

everytime i did something to my engine, for example, atp mani, test pipe, and what not. it seemed that every time i finished the job and took the car for a test run, i'd have a new rattle.
just take some time to track it down.

does it only rattle at a specific rpm.

my rattles usually occurred during 2200-2800rpm

Re: is this what a test pipe should sound like?

mine will do it at just about every rpm. I'm thinking it has to do with the angle my car is at, something must be going toward the front or the back of the car, i should just do it on a hill, see if it makes the sound parked up hill, or parked down hill

Re: is this what a test pipe should sound like?

sorry it did not.. I'm working today and tomorrow so won't really have a chance to really check it out until this weekend (12 hour shifts suuuuck).

Anyway my plan is to put it on ramps, rip the front end apart and wiggle/remove things piece by piece. It's just weird to me that it doesn't even make the sound all the time, probably 1/3 of the time it does.
