Re: Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. Good to use?

Whenever my lifters start to chatter I add about 1/3 bottle of the stuff and it quiets them down. I've used it for years. Ran it in the 94 Jetta VR6 too and that car was a track star at 262,000 miles and went to 299,900 at the abusive hands of my neighbor's daughter. I can't say that it was responsible for the car lasting forever but it certainly didn't hurt.

Re: Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. Good to use?

I run this in both of my cars (Audi B5 1.8T and 330i). Seemed to have quieted down my noisy lifters on my B5, just like Onemoremile said. The stuff isn't cheap, but I put it in the Audi at each oil change. I recommend it...

Re: Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. Good to use?

I used to use it in every oil change. That started getting expensive. Oil changes as is, run about $48. Add the Lucas and I'm up around $55, obviously subtracting a quart of oil and substituting the Lucas in it's place.

My Camaro loved it, the A4 12V loved it, and I've only run it through the 1.8T once. Hard to say if it loved it or not, I haven't really had an issue w/ sludge or lifter tick yet.

I switched the Camaro over to the cheaper non-Syn oil stabilizer b/c it helped limit the amount of oil I was burning towards the end of it's life.

I'd recommend it, if it's in the budget. Otherwise stick with a quality synthetic oil and change it at the proper intervals. This should minimize the need for additives, flushes or repairs.

Mobil 1 5w-40 Plus the Mobil Large oil filter.

I'd love to go GDM (yea, I said it German Domestic Market), but I don't want to pay to have oil imported.
I could probably save money if I bought oil from Wally World, but they don't stock 5w40 or 0w40 in Mobil 1. NTM the filter is $9.98. I'm paying for the convenience mostly. I can buy everything I want or need at Advance Auto, and they actually have stuff in stock unlike the other guys.

    EDIT: $48 i believe was after taxes too. $6.50/qt x 5 + $10 filter. Something like that.

Re: Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. Good to use?

    I LOVE IT...
In my integra it stabilized my oil pressure and the engine was quieter and ran stronger.
I use it on my 1.8t and I can say for a fact that it quiets down the engine.

Re: Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. Good to use?

Bob the oil guy is using straight cut gears as well.

Torsen Differentials are proven to aerate gear oil as well, but we all use that in our AWD/Quattro set ups. How many of us swear by Quattro or AWD?

As far as I can see, Walmart where I am definitely carries 0w40, but it's not actually cheaper (and even if it is, it's like 4 cents cheaper/qt). I always wait for the buy 5 qt get free M1 filter deals that come along every few months at Advance Auto. That probably saves me the most money in general anyway.

Re: Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. Good to use?

I just noticed that Bob the oil guy compares everything to Schaeffer oil. Then clicked on sponsors and there was Schaeffer. Not saying he's biased or anything but we all work for someone...

I dont think they are saying that the Schaeffer oil was special just that lucas made the oil froth.

so what's causing the noisy engine? my engine is nice and quiet without additives. this seems like it just might be a band aid to a problem.

He always refers to Schaeffer as a quality oil. He's also against additives and is sponsored by an additive company so I'm not sure how that works out.

Re: Lucas Synthetic Oil Stabilizer. Good to use?

I use one quart of it in my 4.2. Quieted down the guzzler a little bit. I have used it on my 1.8t's with some good results. I remember too that I tried that CD-2 oil detergent that was like $2.50 at autozone. For some reason that quieted my lifters after 3 seafoam treatments and lucas wasn't helping. Overall lucas is good, as mentioned....it doesn't hurt.
