    Secondary Air Injection Reroute

So I called the dealer and to my surprise this is a pretty cheap part.

I have read it's possible to just disconnect the damn thing but in the process you're stuck with a CEL. I don't mind the CEL but there has to be someway to reroute the thing and fool it into thinking nothing is out of the ordinary.

What is required to disconnect it? All I see is a rubber hose from the air box feeding one side and then a small vacuum line feeding the other going to the intake manifold. Ideas on rerouting are appreciated. Thanks guys.

Nice writeup, however I'm looking to get rid of the SAI all together.

you just unbolt it and disconnect the two hoses and that's it.

    Re: Secondary Air Injection Reroute

Okay I am confused im guessing what I thought was the SAI really isnt, I just seen a picture of it. The part on my car that makes a loud rattling sound is small and silver, a rubber hose from the intake feeds one side and then what appears as a vacuum hose feeds over to the intake mani.

Its silver and sits behind the head just to the left and right above the cooling flange.

I guess im having two separate problems or something.

    Re: Secondary Air Injection Reroute

That sounds like the combination valve for the SAI system, the actual pump is on the passenger side right on the bottom, It's got a flexible hose going from it the the combination valve.

Just found this over on AZ....I'm deleting the system today, and just thought I'd post this for those who want to do the same.

I might give that a shot when I put the GT28 in. That seems like it would be a good time since I don't feel like re-running those lines.

Works fine with it relocated but I wouldn't mind not having it there at all.

haha thats a great write up, i just started reading through it, and whoever wrote it makes me laugh. its also descriptive enough and has enough pictures to be pretty feasible.

The low flow CEL is going to be very hard if not impossible to rid yourself of completely. It will come back eventually. It's just a question of when unless...

There might be a way to richen up the startup fuel enrichment to get it to heat up quicker. Basically the way I understand the SAI is that it just forces more air through the first o2 sensor which in turn tells the engine to pump in more fuel while starting.

Any thoughts or experiences with doing that to avoid the code?

i just started looking at lemminwinks, but i thought (i could be wrong) that theres a setting you can adjust the fueling for start up. maybe bump that up a little, and bump idle up a little? could this work?

That's exactly where I got the idea. After looking over the options again I think that startup is not what we want. I think that we want Channel 05 (warm up fuel enrichment)... not the start up one. Warm up is where the SAI comes into play.

So what do you think about being a guinea pig for trying out modifying channel 5 via lemmiwinks and richening up the mixture?

Seems like you already have the system removed so you might be the best candidate for it.

    Re: Secondary Air Injection Reroute

thats the combi(nation) valve for the secondary air injection system. it recieves a vacuum signal from the intake manifold to allow fresh air from the pump into the exhaust to help the catalytic converter reach operating temperature. usually the vacuum hose cracks or leaks and causes an improper flow fault for SAI. my mil is actually caused by me installing a test pipe. you can buy a block off plate for it, though i forget who makes it.
