Finally a Flywheel for the 3.0

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well anybody wanting to know if there is a Flywheel other then stock available for the 3liter the answer is yes and its been here all along in the audi parts bin. The Audi RS4 flywheel from AWE is what i used. After doing my own R/D on this i found no issues or modifications required to do this, just swap and go.

    Current build for customer.

    Eurospec built short block 9.1comp.
    RS4 almn. Flywheel
    SB stg3 clutch
    Stock heads
    G3/custom tune
    3.0 King 2.8 pulley
    Supersprint headers
    3.0 King Dp'sno cats
    Milltek catback
    2Bennett oil cooler
    Snow Performance/Maf kit 4.0 start/volt and 5.8-6.0 full/volt 6turns on the pump. 2remaining.
    RS4 motor mnts.
    APR snub mnt.
and a bunch of other odds and ends
Also now available. Charge cooler for the G3 but requires hood modification. I recommend the RS4 hood from MTM.

Go big or sit and watch

Great work as always Steve. I'll need a SB clutch soon so I'll check into the RS4 flywheel.

This is the 2.7L RS4 motor flywheel? What about aftermarket 2.7T flywheels? Issues with your bellhousing clearance?

Well thats a great question. I'l try my best to explain. Faster throttle response is one. Why you ask. Because the RS4 fhywheel comes in at 13pounds lighter then stock. Which means less rotating mass to move thus gives the car a chance to rev quicker and come down quicker and hopefully allowing more power to transfer to the ground.

Re: Finally a Flywheel for the 3.0

    holy 13 lbs lighter!!!

    seriously?

    whats the stock weigh?

as for what this does. it frees us lost HP, you rev up a lot faster. much better throttle response. prob save a lil on fuel too.

Re: Finally a Flywheel for the 3.0

The road has been cleared. Know i can say the 6speed tranny in the a4 3.0 is the same as the B5s4 6speed. So any wanting or willing to upgrade there clutch and fylwheel fire away. Had both tranny 's out of the cars. After further inspection, identical. Chop one more down for the 3.0.

nope, I know what Steve meant.

for your interest, I plan to drive my car up until 200K(it will last for sure) miles then I will find a very green B6 A4 3.0 such as 3.0L Audi A4's car then I will swap everything over. I will do a 6spd for sure.

Re: Finally a Flywheel for the 3.0

No chatter at all, pedal feels close to stock. This motor revs so quick and sounds amazing.

IMO. the best mods you could do for your 3liter besides a supercharger is to run a RS4 ltwtfw combo kit from AWE and run the stasis cntr-diff-chng. The car stock will amaze you. This f..ckin thing revs so f..ing fast shit! The tight linear feel and instant power to the ground feels so good...lol

idk, i just dont like it lol maybe the engagment point or how light it is? i got use to my stang and loved that, and i have an old pick up truck with 5 spd and love that too but this car is weird... i drove my buddys 2001 s4 and loved it, felt just like my v8 stang did.. i dont really think there is anything mechanically wrong with my clutch i just dont care for it, especially in first gear, and when im gettin on it a little bit.. deffinatley taking some getting use to.. may be the throttle response as well im really not sure haha

why wouldnt it help? It would stiffen up the pedal and grab lower. A southbend setup is nice for you. Talk to Steve and figure out what flywheel setup is best and get the respective Southbend that should fit with that

Re: Finally a Flywheel for the 3.0

but if it's the same transmission doesn't it have to be the same at the engine?

obviously if the clutches/flywheels didn't fit for some reason the tranny wouldn't either would it?
