Search. Also READ the faq at the top of the page. It will keep you from getting flamed for asking stupid shit (like you did above). Almost everything has been covered and can be found by searching.

if i were you back in the stock form i would do some suspension things first. chips come a dime a dozen these days through classifieds and stuff like that. i would get some sort of coilover setup if you want adjustability, which is nice, however to be 100 percent honest, i have never touched my H&R coils and probably never will haha. or get yourself a cup kit (h&r springs, bilstein shocks, etc) there is a list of shocks, ive had that kit before my h&rs personally i liked it. little low but whatever. other then that, get yourself into sway bars, like H sport or neuspeed.... ive come all the way from stock in my car up to stage 3 and i still havent done sways which im buying soon (h sport).. combined with suspension it will make you think you have a diff. car...

chips, your pref... go with GIAC if you want a rather "aggressive" file, however i dont find that to be true, if you maintain your vehicle you're at least holding up your end of the deal with the turbos, they may decide to go at any point with any chip... so GIAC for power.

    welcome

If your timing belt/water pump hasn't been done yet, I would do that before modding it. It's pretty expensive and very necessary.

I would make sure that the car is in overall good shape before modding. It will save you a lot of heartache and walletache.

Yeah, definitely. I found that out the hard way myself

My credit card cries every time my car makes a strange noise.

Soo your saying that they arent very reliable then, so what should i do to be as safe as possible? I saw timing belt and water pump. But how come shocks and springs and sway bars, im not looking to race it, i just want car that is pretty fast so if anyone pulls up on me i can beat them, but for now i just want to do like exhaust, a blow off valve for the kool noise, and i never seen a intake really so is it a waste of time for intake? Also about the suspension stuff just tell me why i need it or would like it? Thx

Take a few minutes to search, search, search and then search again. All your basic questions-answered a thousand times over. Chips, exhaust, suspension, you name it. It's personal preference depending on what the car will be used for. As others said, get maintenance up to date before you start modding and save up for a rainy day. These cars are as reliable as you make them..but sh*t happens. Good luck.

    degmidgit: i dont think this is stressed enough here on the b5s4 forum in the audizine;
the b5s4 is not that complicated to work on.(its just TIME CONSUMING) pick up a wrench when something breaks!!!
vag-com helps a ton and search this forum as well as audiworld for answers. vwvortex also helps too

why suspension? because unlike most dumb people that just like to go fast straight this carand the people who usually buy this car were made for corners and adding coilovers and etc...to this awd car would make it a very nice handling machine.
a bov? please!!! our cars are not for stupid little psss noices first of all the air is calculated by the ecu and it recirculates through the diverter valves. now you can get better dv's but no psss sorry.

now to your first question ...

I would do tb wp if its time deending on how many miles you got there
then I would do suspension and brakes personally I have beilstein pss9 and big brake kit from stop tech and that's what I would recommend.
next I would probably save my money for someone's used stg3 set up because as time passes people would find new things to do and then that will become affordable...while saving I would buy little things like boost gauge and short shifter, maybe some used lightweight rims with some azenis rt615s anyway I'm saying all this with price on mind. I assume you are young, so money could be tight. welcome and search a little next time.

Alright thx for giving me answers, now i no tb stands for turbo back what does wp mean, i have searched alot about short shifters and i seen and i liked the jhm one i seen a video and it performed good. Now do you perfer to get better diverter valves for the stock turbos. What is the weight of the stock wheels, i seen aftermarket wheels weigh 17-22 pounds i rele like the r8 wheels do u prefer those

I'll answer your question as opposed to just being an ass.

Shocks, springs and sway bars: These will, make your car better for a number of reasons. First off, a lowered car is more aesthetically pleasing. Second, much like weight reduction, the car will do everything better. The car will transfer its weight much more effectively, allowing the car to accelerate faster (Improved 60' times), brake more efficiently, and corner better. As the S4 is very front heavy, a rear sway bar will help to neutralize the car, giving it a much more pleasing feel.

As for chip, exhaust DV/BOVs and intake- These are all preference. I ran an open air element and BOVs in my car for a while. If done correctly, it's fine. My air intake is heat shielded, and my car is running larger turbos. In all honesty, it probably hurts me, but gives me a lot more room to work on other things. The BOVs I ran were designed for the S4 (Turbosmart Kompact). Once again, they probably did nothing good for me, but didn't do anything catastrophic either. I'm currently running 710N valves which are plenty capable, and very affordable.

Chip - MTM, GIAC, APR, etc.
Exhaust- Borla, APR, AWE, Scorpion, etc.

    The bottom line:
Someone's car will always be faster - Either A) Have a peppy, luxurious automobile and quit worrying about everyone else or B) Sell it and buy something else.

Is it me, or are there a SHITLOAD of 16 year olds with B5 S4s nowadays? I thought I was young, at 23, Jesus Christ.

Please keep your S4 mature, even though you may be immature

tb and wp stood for timing belt and water pump btw lol; anyways for initial mods, it all depends on what's most important to you. If speed is more important, I'd get the downpipes replaced with piggie pipes or some other aftermarket downpipe, and catback might not be a bad idea while you're down there. As for chip, most people go with GIAC or APR, either way, you'll want to upgrade your throttle body boot (tbb) with a silicone one, which you can get from 034 motorsport and some other sites, and your diverter valves with the 710N ones (the stock TT DV's). And if you have an '00 or early '01 model and have an F-hose, you'll wanna get an upgraded version of that too

OH, change your oil frequently, like every 3k-5k frequently, and make sure you don't beat on or run the car hard while warming up, and also be easy on it the last few minutes of driving to cool down, doing those things will go a long way in making your stock turbos last

unlike the arrogant pricks that are just going to bust your balls ill help you out lol. they are the reason people think dicks drive audis........

take your car first thing to the closest audi dealership have them service it and see what they recommend first.

IMO chipping a used s4 isnt the smartest idea since you dont know the condition of the tubos but you can ask the dealership what shape they are in.

    WP stands for water pump
TB stands for timing belt not throttle-body
blow off valves are against the law since you have an s4 the engineers put diverter valves on it because it actually uses that air that normally would go pssh into your engine bay
from what ive seen an s4 suspension is awesome to begin with and coil overs are $$$$

second IMO you pay for APR's name I bought everything from AWE and love it. for a stage 3 from AWE w/o manifolds will run you 7500 vs the 8000$ APR charges for the exact same thing.

if i was you id drive the car stock for as long as you can tolerate it, and save as much money as you can and when the time comes (either the current turbos blow or you get 11g in savings) buy the full kit from AWE and have it installed by a shop that is an audi specialist.

you can do exhaust now weather it be cat back or turbo back.

Re: Im new, what is the best way to go on my s4

Thx NogaroWando00 I got the car because my dad owns a body shop and knows alot of people and a guy had a car with a little damage in the front and is selling it for 5g. So i know you can do alot of thinks to it so i wanted it. So we have to fix it which is nothing and then do whatever i want to it, i have to pay for it, im used to speed i race sprint cars if anyone knows what that is they have 700hp and its direct drive. And i dont think i can save 11g or my dad wont let me spend that much on the car.

IMO chipping a used s4 isnt the smartest idea since you dont know the condition of the tubos but you can ask the dealership what shape they are in.
I wouldn't do anything at a dealer other than an alignment and to pick up dealer only parts. Find an indy shop in your area if possible.

And a dealer can tell you what shape the turbos are in? Only if they pull the engine and the turbos. Only thing you can do is listen for dentist drilling. They go when they go and it's believed they run strongest just before they go..All B5 S4's are used cars at this point and people chip them everyday. It will add wear and work the turbos harder, so if you aren't prepared to replace them, then yeah, don't chip it...but you would be short changing yourself of the best bang for buck mod out there..

When i get the car im not goin to mess around ill just have them rebuilt, if i do that will they run better or just longer? How much would it cost? Now if i want to raise up the boost on stock turbo's i need a boost controller? OR is that what the chip does? You guys are probaly goin to yell at me search, but i searched alot today just give me some knowledge

Just by your posts, I can tell you didn't search enough.

I'm really not trying to be an ass, but plug in all your key words and you will get tons of hits. And turbo work requires engine removal. You would be waisting your time rebuilding K03's unless you are on a SERIOUSLY tight budget, in which case, the S4 may not be the car for you. Good luck.

Have at a minimum of $2k ready to spend on the car everything is $$$$. To have someone pull the engine out to replace turbos is $1,600.00 no parts. I woudn't buy one for a first car unless i had a good job at your age, sorry not tryin to be a douche nozzle. Check out the sticky treads and as Dan Cook says, "GOOgLE THAT SHIT"

well thats what i meant but i dont know if he can grasp that concept, the sieren sound is normal at low boost which might trick him lol

but yes either way if you go stock turbos replaced by a shop it will run about 7000$ one est. i had said that. but for 9300$ (my grand total) you can get the stage 3. I waited and found a audi tech who has a stage 3 and he did it for cheaper.

like mholme said if your not prepared for the new turbos weather you buy the k04 kit or deiced to go with the k03s, dont chip it.

chances are your current turbos wont be good candidates for a rebuild. you can just buy the k03's for around 2 grand id guess. then after you did that a chip would be good.

how many miles are on your car and its wrecked? like has a salvage title?
