I have the same problem with the clutch engaging when the pedal is fairly "high" ... well it is not so much a "problem", but I would like to know what causes it.

<< That may help a bit... that is just one of the threads I have read over time about the "high" clutch engagement. My clutch engages somewhere in the last 15-20% of the pedal as well, and I believe it is the norm for the OEM clutch. Hope that helps!

Re: little bit of help for the noob!

I have hated this about my audi since i go t it...one of the mods i would really like to do is the short shifter, but if i were to do that i would have to make sure to upgrade the clutch to get a much shorter engagement point.

What kind of clutch upgraded get you the short engagements? Any recommendations? What are some other advantages of an upgraded clutch?

You can change the clutch (plate, cover, throw-out bearing, etc) for an aftermarket one. It is the stock clutch that has a "high" engagement point. We have hydraulic clutches, no adjustments are available or necessary.
