Now everyone is making their s's go fast in straight lines, but i was wondering if anyone has modded up for an auto x or something of that nature. Are the cars just too heavy? i know you can take a bunch o' weight out of it, and im too poor to go stg3, so any tips/ list of mods would be appreciated.

    thanks!

I think Rear sway bar throws you out of stock class...

I have ran my Mazda3 well, I might try out the S4 after I make sure it will survive the day ;). I'm running completely stock.

And unless you want to pour some real money into your S, you might not be competitive in the the STU or "Street Modified" classes (that is if you just want to qualify with a rear sway upgrade and/or a few "other" necessary goodies).

this is the car classifications that i would be going under, its the chicago volkswagon owners CVO cup.

basically every mod/feature is assigned a point value. there are different classes based on point total for car, so im just wondering which would be best, because i want the lowest point total

Looks like with a stock car you would be barely within the B class limit. So if you have an automatic you can put a rear sway bar and still be in B class.. but that's it!

    Re: AutoCross

The S4 is a terrible SOLO car. My first year I ran in D Novice class and did fairly well (I ran as stock class). The next year I ran in D Street Prepared class (once they found out i was modded) and got slaughtered. Just a chip puts you in DSP because you are modifying boost.

The car is too heavy, rolls too much, and just generally does not handle well on small, tight tracks. The S is much more suited for road racing courses like Buttonwillow, or Willowsprings, or other tracks like that where you can actually get out of 2nd gear.

Basically it's not worth running in SOLO unless you either don't care about winning or you have a $h!tload of money to throw at it. Granted it IS fun.

There was an article about a year ago on Autoblog about a guy running his S4 (sunroof delete) in SOLO, but had an ungodly amount of money invested, basically the entire STASIS catalogue.

That is strange you say that theCOOP. Seems like alot of the high ranked cars in Iowa AutoCross seem to be S4's. AutoCross is kinda janky in my opinion.....road course rather than cones...

I've tracked my A4 (see sig). I need to take my S4 to the track and take advantage of the Penske Challenge Kit coilovers. muahahaha

    Re: AutoCross

I have done road courses also and lemme tell you that auto crosses are a bit harder since the turns come up much faster and you don't have much time to setup for them. I have seen a few people that do road courses try an auto cross and they didn't do so hot.

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy road courses more but I think that skill wise Auto crossing is right up there with road courses.

You know what they say, an autoxer makes a good tracker but trackers make bad autoxers.

    Re: AutoCross

I'd say an A4 is better suited for autoX, you don't have an elephant sitting on the front end. With a nice suspension setup you can rip up a autocross track really well with an A4.
