    really thinking about this

maybe over winter get it to stage 3- or something, and then finally getting transmission installed, and fueling by spring

where are the good deals now? I know VAST and EPL were favorites on the budget before

Well, if you have a GIAC chip, you can always trade up to the stage 3- file if you swap out your K03s for K04s. That's the cheapest way to get into the K04 world. Then you'd have to save some more cash to get a fueling setup to make the most of the turbos. Then you need intercoolers to handle the fueling upgrade.

I believe the Giac Stage 3- file is a $200 trade-in on your exsisting Stage 1 chip. You also need a 5bar FPR to run the Stage 3- file. They run in the $150-180 range.

BTW, you should definitely check out the AZ classifieds. I've seen quite a few sets of K04s and RS4 inlets in there for sale lately. This is under the S4 section, not the A6 section.

lol yeah the bill can quiet run up I know that

just that before transmission actually goes on and everything gets finished, I think it might be a good idea to get the turbo's done now; the car has something around 110k miles now still on stock turbo's (60k of those are mine)

so I figure instead of doing this 2-3 months after transmission goes on - hold out, get the turbo's on there, and piggies, and maybe a clutch, so I won't have to go in there again

then after that get the IC's and then the fueling kit; the car probably won't be driven at all untill it's completely done (maybe with just K04's)

Re: how many stage 3's are there now?

I currently have a GIAC 3- tune with 5 bar FPR, I am going with VAST when I go full stage 3 shortly. The 3- from GIAC offers no tunability, this is an issue since I am also running MI. I would love to advance the timing but I can't. Go with VAST
    I don't think I care anymore

Re: how many stage 3's are there now?

The FPR is for Fuel Pressure Regulator. This is a vacuum driven diaphram that snaps onto the fuel rail and creates pressure within the fuel rail based on the engine's load. More fuel rail pressure results in more fuel sprayed per millisecond that each injector fires.

The stock FPR is 4.0bar. The Audi Motorsport version is a 5.0bar FPR.

Some people also take the 4.0bar and crush it to increase spring resistance and mimic a 5bar but, this is not ideal since the fuel pressure increase is not linear. It becomes more of a bell curve in change from base pressure to 5bar.
