Car is just dying

So my moms 01 B5 2.8 is having some problems. She just got a new battery about 2 months ago and she thought it was that. So she called me over to help her out and I started the car no problem, but then the RPM's just dropped from about 1 and the car died in no more than 2-3 seconds. So it's definitely not the battery since it has no problem starting. It turns on, idles for about a second and then just drops the RPM's until it's off.

I searched and couldn't find anything about this. Any help is appreciated!

Sounds to me like a fuel problem. I would start by changing out the fuel filter.

I've got the same problem on my car from time to time.

It starts up fine and then just dies. So far I haven't found any answer. I was thinking that some part of the engine isn't getting enough power, because it sometimes helps to turn of the fan (climate) and turn on the parking lights.

But then again, it's wierd that it'll start up fine a couple days in a row (even a few weeks) and then suddenly it's a pain in the ass to get started. Takes up to 20 tries at most :s
