getting new keyless remote, 3 button or 2 button

all i have are two standard keys without remote, and i know my car originally came with keyless entry but i don't have them. i saw many options on ebay...i'm pretty sure 2 button is the right remote but will the 3 button remote work on my car? anyone know?

isn't the 3rd button for the trunk open? i think some had actuators, mine doesn't 99.5

either one should work, as long as you have the right fcc codes. I honestly don't remember which ones go w/ which, but you can definitely look them up. I have a 2000 and my backup key is a three button. Obviously the trunk release doesn't do anything for me but it definitely works.

oh come to think of it there's no trunk open button in my car (99.5 by the way, if it matters). the only way to open it is pushing the lock button...........so i'd assume getting a three button would be pointless, right?

does anyone know if the newer, switchblade remotes would work with a 1997 that came with the old separate ones?

i have a 99.5 Avant and have the 3 button remote and I can open my trunk with the trunk button but maybe its an avant thing!

the third button is for the avant truck. The keys still work on the sedans, but the trunk button doesnt do anything. I bought one off ebay for cheap, and it works just fine.
