    Finished my sub box

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This has been my little project for the past few weeks during my free time. I didn't set out wanting it to look just like the one on A4mods.com, but I thought this design looked the best. I am still trying to think of a better looking bracket so any ideas would be great.

Im still running the stock head unit and I'm non-bose. Wish I had done this when I got the car because the stock sub is a joke and is not even hooked up any more. I also have a bass remote for the amp so I dont always have to be bumpin.

Looks good, where'd you get the fabric to match the trunk liner? How much did you spend on materials to build the box? I'm looking to make a similar box but I don't quite trust myself with the fiberglass.

    Re: Finished my sub box

This was my first try at fiber glass. If you take your time it is easy to do but the stuff is just nasty. I spent close to $100 on materials (if you go to A4mods.com there is a chart on stuff needed). I had a friend that owns an upholstery shop match the fabric the best he could, and It looks almost the same in person.

BTW, I can still use the anchor under the sub box even though you can't tell from the picture.

Haha...It is super stealth when I close the trunk. But the box does look alot bigger in these pics for some reason. It looks real slick IMO in person, other than the ugly bracket im using right now. I also will be doin something with that amp when I get time.

    Re: Finished my sub box

if ur bracket is what makes the box stay in place then just get a roll of velcro tape and put it on the bottom of the box, i did the same thing in my wrx and in tight cornering and everything the box never once broke loose.

There's two factory bolt locations underneath that panel, one at the 12 o'clock position (in reference to the sub's position), and another at the 10 o'clock. You should be able to use those if you get creative

And that amp should be able to fit a few places. Behind the passanger side trunk panel, possibly in the factory amp location if you're not using it (or possibly in the same area behind the driver's side panel), or how bout in place of where the factory sub is located...

    Just a couple of ideas...

ok thanks Ill take a look at those bolts and see what I can do. I was thinking the same thing for the amp. It is small so there are alot of places it could go. BTW Im still using the stock amp.

You will need a new amp for a bigger sub.

    Re: Finished my sub box

Yeah i was wondering how big you could go with your sub (12" maybe?) before the stock amp is struggling to produce enough power (or if you could even use the stock amp to power an aftermarket sub). Also, do you have to disconnect your stock sub to put in the new one or can you run both? And finally, any sub/amp recommendations?

Wish i was more stereo system saavy but i'm not and i haven't even looked at subs since i bought my last audiobahn 12's in 2000.

Sounds great. I don't even have to turn the bass up for it to be loud, and I don't like my trunk rattling anyway.

You wouldn't want to run a stock amp to a after market sub. That would be wasting your time and money. You don't have to disconnect your stock sub, but I did because the stocker would get over powered before the 12" would which would effect sound. I do not know much about speakers either. I went with Memphis audio because it is popular around here and I knew it sounded good and lasted. Although anything is better than stock.
