    Foglight Delete Question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i was changing out my foglight bulbs the other day whan i noticed that if we did not have that fog housing the intercoolers would receive even more air and in a direct straight shot. I know this owuld not provide any hp gains, and i would look for any, but i would think it would allow the intercoolers to receive more air and help cool things down even more. The only problem is once you pulls these out you get the bulb out warning (is there a way to get rid of this with vag)

I thought it might look cool to remove the housing and fill it in with black mesh?

I dunno any thoughts or if any has odne this let me know.

    Re: Foglight Delete Question

sounds like a cool idea, but the plastic on the bumper would still have the shape of a fog light, woulnt that have to be cut off?

    Re: Foglight Delete Question

ya im thinking of just applying like a mesh behind the hole where the foglight would go. So in no way would i alter the piece besides removing the whole housing and filling in that hole with a mesh or as i saw on another thread honeycomb gutterguard

    Re: aerodynamics in play

As I understand it, it's not just the size of the opening, but how the airstream hits the front of the car. No expert here, but I think the plastic chute behind there is designed to collect airflow that hits toward the center of the car and direct it toward the intercoolers at the sides. That said, probably not a ton of difference either way.

    Re: Foglight Delete Question

well i fully understand that audi engineers would have spent alot of time perfecting this, and i agree there wouldnt be a performance gain, but just like installing a fmic you are ramming that air in. In this situation removing the housing leaves a straight opening that would ram the air in as well. Im not an engineer but the IC's would def receive more air than before.

    Re: Foglight Delete Question

Take out the foglights but the part that goes across it and see how it looks but if it looks bad your stuck and you need to know what your doing also. Seems like a cool idea tho. Maybe just change the bumper? All depends on the dough you have and chance you wanna take

    Re: Foglight Delete Question

im willing to do this and take pics, the worst that could happen is i dont like the look and just go buy the plastic surround which isnt a big deal. My concern is if i can get rid of the bulb out warning i would receive with a vag com. I dont want to drive around all the time with a bulb out warning dinging at me and shit. SO if somebody know if you can get rid of this warning with a vag com or some other trick post up and let me know

    Re: Foglight Delete Question

I have been running like this for a while now and there are noticeable cooling effects, I was about to ask my preferred body shop to redo my grills without the fogs.

how did you get around the bulb out warnings or did you learn to just live with them?

    Re: Foglight Delete Question

Try putting a resister or capacitor to each end of the fog light harness to replicate a 12v draw, this will trick the CECM in to thinking that the fogs are drawing 12v. Hope this helps.
