Blew IC piping, drove for 3 miles bad?

On a drive today I was at full boost and blew an intercooler hose. The car didnt go into boost as usual. The guy behind told me I had smoke coming out of my exhaust for a second. My main concern is driving it for 3 miles (trying to stay in vacuum like crazy) and Im hoping that doing this didnt like melt a piston or something like that.

burning a piston generally comes from running lean, you definitely weren't running that lean. The reason is smoked is b/c you ran pig rich for a second before the ECU adapted.

You should be fine. Pull your oil dipstick and just double check to make sure your oil doesn't smell like fuel. If it does, change your oil. Gas in your oil makes every mile you drive, wear like it's 20 miles.

    You're fine.
Under non WOT the ECU will run at a preset value and the o2 sensor adjust it accordingly.

I'm surprised you didn't stall out but running it like that for a short burst is fine. Don't run it too long or the excess fuel will wash out your cylinder walls.

well after a while right before I got to a stop sign the car died everytime I let the idle go under normal. I reconnected the hose and cleared the codes and all is good.

That is normal. You have nothing to worry about. Of course the car will die in that situation. Your MAF is reading a different amount than you're actually getting. It takes a minute for your computer to "re-learn" the new amount. Anytime other than WOT your car is designed to run at 14.7:1. Your o2 sensor will adjust to it soon enough, even with a hose popped.

Just for a quicker learning curve next time you blow a IC hose off, unplug your MAF. That way it wont have a false amount of air being sent in.
