My buddy put what looks like about a 1/2 a quart too much oil in his 1.8t and now the oil pressure light keeps poppoing on. Will that have caused any damage to anything. What should I tell him to do?

    Re: oil pressure

Drain the 1/2 quart out first. If problem persist then maybe oil pump failure.

do you know what would happen if he were to drive it like it is for a few hundred miles? He's in Cali and won't be able to do anything until he gets back here. Will it cause any damage if he drives it carefully home? The lights not always on. just sometimes.

    Re: oil pressure

I'm not too sure. I had one fail on a 1998 passat and I drove it about 50 mile to the dealer. It was making a bad ticking noise like it was starved of oil. I guesstimate that it might not be to safe driving a couple hundred miles on it.

There are other things you should check as well, like the oil pressure sensor, and also I think I may have read that is also a symtom of sludge too. Hope this helps

It shouldn't be too difficult to dump some oil -- perhaps you can reach the oil filter from the top and empty that.

Who am I kidding? I'm never going to find time to mod this thing.
