Thinking of putting one on. Any suggestions? What kind, how hard was it to install?

Apexi is always a good choice, but a little bit more $$$. The Greddy TT will fit right in the cup holder or CC tray. Super easy to install. Just remember, when the Turbo Timer is idling the engine, you can not activate the factory alarm. A turbo timer companion takes care of that for you. Click Here - TT Companion

What are some opinions on getting a turbo timer for a stock A4 B6? I was thinking about getting one when I first purchased the car... but then thought, if Audi didn't put it on as an OEM option, then it probaly isn't needed.

Our cars have water cooled turbos, just don't drive it hard for the last few minutes to where ever you're going. If you do just let it idle for a minute.

That's all I do. By the time I get all the windows up and the sun roof closed, gather everything....a minute has passed. LOL

A turbo timer let's the car idle after you remove the key from the ignition for a set amount of time, allowing the engine oil to cool down before shutting down the car. The purpose of doing this is to avoid oil coking, which is the oil cooking from extreme heat, which will inturn damage turbo bearings.

This is just a substitute for you coming to a stop and idling the car for a bit before shutdown.
