It's common, lots of lube and pressure from what I've gathered.

    Re: Problem installing RS4 sway

Some people have said the brackets need to be replaced with 'newer ones' that have the same part number but are bigger and i was emailing with Cafe (the guy responsible for the group buy a lil while back) and he had cleared up all the confusion and said the brackets are indeed the same size so as the durrrrrty bird up there said which made me laugh like a total dork 'use lots of lube and pressure' :). Update when you have slathered those things with all the lube they can take and use a lot sweet sensual pressures. All stock parts will take the rs4 swazey.

Vice grips and/or clamps help a lot. I used C clamps on the top and vice grips on the bottom to bring the brackets to about a half inch and then I slowly tightened the bolts to finish the job. Be patient and keep everything straight.

    Re: Problem installing RS4 sway

I think there might be more than one size and could be related to older B6s, or B6s without sport suspension. I reused my brackets first with RS4 rear sway using vice grips, and had a much larger gap between the bracket and frame. I don't know if this is true, but it seems some people have had more trouble than others, so my guess is the non-sports came with smaller bracket. anyway, if you search you'll find a post I made with the part numbers for the RS4 bracket and they were definitely bigger than my old ones. Made install a breeze comparatively. So do yourself a favor and order them, maybe $25 in hardware.

Edit: nevermind I see now you're USP, so you should have no trouble. But I stand by what I said earlier about the new brackets I got being larger than my OEM ones.

He's right. Vice Grips are the way to go. Even better, if you have needle nose vice grips. Just like he said, get one of the bolts (top or bottom) to catch a couple of threads and "clamp" the other end together or close enough to get the second bolt to catch and you'll be good.

If you search you'll notice the A4 brackets are the same exact part number as the RS4 brackets. No dice!

This is the way to do it. The bushings are pre-lubed. I had to push them in hard with one hand and get the top bolt started with a few threads. Once that was in then I could get my vice grips on the bottom to compress the bottom and get the bottom bolt in. Took me about an hour to do the whole sway bar and I'm a skinny bastard with little upper body strength. Its best to have the rear wheels on ramps to load the suspension. Makes the end links so much easier to install.

Hey Doug, see my post. I had them side by side and the RS4 brackets I ordered from the dealer were larger.

So I was mistaken. I apologize.

It still worked fine for me, and many others, using the stock A4 brackets.

another much easier wayto do this is to go get some cheap skinny bolts that fit through the holes but ate longer and use those to draw the bracket down onto the bushing. Then you just take those off one by on and put the normal bolts back in. Took me 30 mins.

the rubber inserts must be larger ID for the official RS4 parts also.
