    1997 remote batteries

I'm the proud new owner of a 1997 a4, but the remotes are both without batteries; They're the old style, not switchblade, that's separate from the key. Does anybody know what batteries they use? Apparently they take 2 batteries each, stacked. I can get a signal out of it with a 2032, but it rattles around because it's too small, so I'm guessing that I'll need two 1.5V batteries in serial. Even the parts dept. at the local dealership didn't know!
    Thanks!
