Aligment pros welcome need your help (LONG)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I recently purchased Stasis coils and I Installed right away. so.... obviously I needed an aligment ASAP here are the results when I got there.

Left front: -1.8 Camber , 4.3 Caster, and -0.01 Toe.
Right Front: -1.5 Camber, 5.1 Caster, and -0.08 Toe.

    Total front Toe= -0.09
    Steer Ahead = 0.03

Left Rear: -2.1 Camber, 0.31 Toe
Right Rear: -2.1 Camber, 0.45 Toe

    Total Toe 0.76
    Thrust Angle -0.07

    recommended procedure is :
1)to adjust rear camber and toe
    2) Adjust front camber
    3) Raised toe procedure
    4) Adjust toe with WinToe.

The shop I took it too has a state of the art alignment machine thats brand spanking new. They told me that they had to charge me extra for labor because they had to move my sub frame and it would take approximately an hour to do so not counting the adjustment of the TOe and the other things needed. I have no issue paying this considering this is going to be a forever alignment type thing, But figure I would ask you pro slammers on what your route is as far as alignments goes.
Wondering what Capt does about his air ride???

    Thanks in advanced

What they are trying to due is bring your camber and caster equal on both sides. Being as there are no adjustments for those, the best they can due is make them equal. As for Capt., his suspension never sits in the same position, so an alignment is kinda pointless.

Quality alignment usually costs about $150. But having to adjust yourfront camberand caster is definetly going to cost near $200

This shop is trying to make money off of you by charging you for bullshit procedures.

There are *4* 18mm bolts that hold your rear subframe in place. It should take no more than 10 minutes to adjust it, especially if the car is on a lift. The front camber is not adjustable, you only have toe-in/out adjustment.

As for my alignment, I have a ride height controller that raises my car to the same height everytime I drive it. My car is aligned for that ride height. Of course, it's not perfect every time, nor is my alignment, but it's "close enough" and I get pretty decent tire wear (rear tires wear pretty much normal, and the fronts last about 15-20k miles if I rotate them when the inside edges wear).

The front camber IS adjustable, just not indivually. Shifting the front subframe, splits the camber between both wheels

Yeah, but you should never have to adjust that unless the car has been wrecked or you've had the motor or tranny out.

And you can just barely adjust it.

assuming the ride height is setup correctly and the car has not been in any wrecks there should be no need to adjust the subframe.

Just set the toe in the front. Then match the rear up with the proper camber and toe you want and call it a day.

Re: Aligment pros welcome need your help (LONG)

SO what should I do??? As far as the numbers goes I don't think my alignment is that bad, is it?? The forever alignment gig is 180 and I had a gift card for 30 bucks making it a bit over 150. I drive carefully not hitting any bumps or anything like that.

The guy wants to charge $220 plus tax( included the extra hour of labor). This is a forever alignment that I would have to pay an extra hour of labor (70 bucks every time I need to move the frame for the alignment which is not suppose to be every time unless a hit a big bump or mess up the alignment badly somehow.

You must have some amazing roads. I can't even get out of my driveway without hitting a bump.

Ask around in the regional forum for a good local 4 wheel alignment shop. Most shops i have recently used are about $150. I am on my 2nd alignment this year. will be getting another one come november unfortunatly. I used to be able to get to a place that was $50 for ACNA member. But not anymore.

Just have them align it normal. When you see, say 1.25 degrees, that .25 is actually what is measured in what are called minutes. There are 360 degrees in a circle and 60 minutes in each degree, equaling 21,600 minutes in that same circle. As you can see now that .25 is very minimal. So if I made it confusing.

The front camber can be balanced side to side only, by shifting the front subframe. Given the current values shown, the resulting camber if actually equal, would be -1.65 on each side. That is preferred to what it is now, but it costs extra labor time to adjust. The front toe is fairly close, it should be set nominally zero toe, with about -0.01 toe (out). The rear toe is way to much toe out now, it should be set to ~-0.01 toe (out) with rear camber at ~ -1.2 to -1.5.

Yes, the more negative camber you have the less toe-in you want. And this works in proportions, a little camber=a little less toe-in, a lot of camber= a lot less toe-in. This will offset the camber and really help out with tire wear.

I apologize if my first post made me sound as a alignment guru :). What should I tell them to do? Will I see big tire wear if Don't align? He made it sound as if my alignment as it is right now wasn't too bad and I shouldn't see any uneven tire wear.

See my reply above. With the rear settings you have now, I predict rapid inner tread edge wear on the rear tires. Either have the alignment done now, or watch the rear tread wear carefully. In my experience, with lowered ride height, the inner edge wear will appear suddenly, and progress quickly, often to the point of exposing the steel belts before anything is clearly wrong. Aside from tread wear, the toe out at the rear wheels, is causing the handling to suffer, with the directional stability compromised, and the car feeling touchy and needing constant steering corrections to hold a straight line.

The effect isn't that great, but you will notice the difference after the alignment.

Have them put the rear toe to almost 0, just a small amount of toe-in. Your car is lowered, correct?
