Headlight Assembly Swap

Hey guys...so the a4 that i just bought ended up coming with Halogens and I want to swap in some xenon's my questions is if I can get a Xenon housing bulbs ballasts the works from a scrap yard or online or anywhere...wouuld it simple be a "plug and play" type thing or will I need to do some modification of the wires....the dealership told me it's cost abuot $1500CD per side so $3000 for xenons sounds pretty retarded....anybody got any advice for me? I know there are a lot of posts about xenon conversions but haven't found anything that talks abuot this....thanks

it is a direct swap, but if u want self leveling it is a lot of work

They are plug'n play and you can get bulbs and ballasts for a whole lot less. You can get bulb and ballast kit from hidconcept.com and used housing fairly cheap on here...come to think of it, I have a set for sale with high beam and turn signal bulbs for sale.

Do you know of a DIY for the self leveling...I'm pretty sure i'd need that....how much work is a lot of work? i'm pretty new to working on cars...all previous cars were just taken to the dealership...that being said I am very good with working with my hands...would i be able to do it?

you can find used sets of xenon housings and ballasts in classifieds pretty regularly. you may want to look into ecodes ( as in if you would want a set) before you buy standard US spec housings, or consider black/grey S4 style housings instead of the more common chrome ones.
swapping the lights is a piece of cake. 4 bolts and the electrical connector per side. I believe A4mods.com has a writeup.

retrofitting autoleveling is def not trivial, but you don't really need it. imo i'd skip if i were you.
