    will alignment fix my rubbing

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
i posted in the tech forum but wanted to ask b7 folks directly.

i just installed coilovers and a new rim/tire set up and my tires are rubbing over bumps. will an alignment solve this issue? i really do not want to raise the ride height if i don't have to.

    setup:
about 1 finger gap from the top of the tire to the fenders all around.
    18x8 et35 wrapped in 245/40/18

    thanks.
    Jay

Re: will alignment fix my rubbing

yeah you have the exact same setup as me. i'm not sure an alignment will do much to help. it's the offset that causes the problem, you are probably nearly flush with the fender, so you are probably rubbing just barely inside the wheel well.

even prior to my c/o's i had rubbed a few times due to the wider tires. my guess is you'll have to raise up some or get narrower tires.

if you run negative camber it will help with the rubbing.

I'm 25" all around, ET35, 235 tires, 1100 lb springs in back, and no rubbing. I do have 1.5 degrees of negative camber front and rear and zero toe so a good alignment may help you if you don't know what you are set at. What is your spring rate? Soft springs may contribute to the rubbing.

I am 25" all around and the tire size is what is killing you, I went from a 245 Goodyear to a 225 Toyo, and hove 0 rub no matter the bump. the Toyo's are much more narrow on the shoulder and are what I recommend if you plan on staying that low. I called Stasis and they said they run 255 Toyo's but cant fit 235 Goodyears, they are that big of diff.

Re: will alignment fix my rubbing

went with a -2.1 camber in the rears. so far no rubbing issues back there. I ordered spacers from stasis to give me an extra inch of height adjustment for the rears (koni). i will likely install them prior to snow season and readjust the camber to spec when everything gets raised up a half inch.

    thanks for the input everyone.
