Question Dbl Din nav unit with the closest match to interior lighting

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have seen the AVIC-D3 installed and seems to match pretty well but not liking the fact that the nav needs to be ran from the dvd which on this model has only one slot. Which other models match up well to our interior lights out of Pioneer, Kenwood, Eclipse and Alpine double din navigation units? I'm looking to upgrade and want a unit that blends in with the other lights and not that green or blue color. If anyone has a unit that they like could you please post a picture installed with interior lights on. thanks!

Re: Dbl Din nav unit with the closest match to interior lighting

I have an Alpine IVA-W505 and I had the LEDs in it replaced with red to match the interior. I sent it to a place called La Jolla Audio in San Diego to have it done. They did a really nice job and the lights match extremely well with the B5 interior. I also like the look of the W505 much more than the Pioneer unit. I'd take pictures, but the car is having some body work done right now. As soon as I have it back (hopefully the end of this week) I'll take some pictures.

^ Thanks I would really like to see pics when you get them. I also thought about having the led's replaced on other units I liked. I like the color matching of the avic-d3 unit but dont care for the screen size and the fact that the nav disk needs to be in when in use. Shoot me over some pics when you can. thanks

on the d3 once you load your destination it loads the route into memory so you can eject the nav dvd and pop in a cd or dvd. only time you have to put it in during your trip is if you want to select a new route/stop along the way. Other than that you can adjust the button color to any color you want.

wouldnt one of these systems hinder the quality of the sound though? I personally have never heard an aftermarket stereo sound as good as the stock bose system does. I am afraid to switch to anything but another audi unit for this reason. Is it the head unit that produces the great sound in our cars or is it the rest of the system that plays the bigger role?

the H/U doesnt play that large of a roll in the sound quality (only the hidden eq), because you can get the same symphony II in non bose, its the speakers and amplifier that make it solid.

my avic d3 and ALL aftermarket stereos i've ever put in any of my cars have ALWAYS sounded better than the stock. my avic sounds 50 times better than the stock bose.. plus i put some polk audio 6.5s in the back and my stereo has never sounded better.

Re: Dbl Din nav unit with the closest match to interior lighting

Ok, as I promised a couple of months ago, here are some pics of my Alpine IVA-W505. I had the blue LEDs that came in it swapped out for red ones. I think it looks really good, and I like the unit itself better than the Pioneers.

Sorry on that last one. I slowed the shutter speed way down to try to show it better in the dark, and couldn't hold it very steady. I may do one with a tripod sometime.

It was like $130 to change them if I remember right. It was La Jolla Audio in San Diego: www.lajollaaudio.com
