    hmmm.... i wonder

if putting my badge in the oven will help it dry quicker. I just painted my rear rings black and my girlfriend's acura badge white, the paint is taking forever to dry. Would putting it in the oven work or would that just take longer? It seems like it would work but i don't know...

    Re: hmmm.... i wonder

dude i don't know what's up with this paint. I put the primer on it last night and that dried in like an hour, so then i put the 1st coat on today a 12 and i just got home like a half hour ago and it's still soft and not completely dry. I'm not tryin to wait 48 hours for this shit to dry lol. Would the oven work though?

    Re: hmmm.... i wonder

well i mean i was planning on putting like 3 coats of this paint on and a clear coat, but if it's gonna take 48 hours to dry each coat.... damn. Patience is not one of my virtues lol. I would have just done caliper paint which i know dries really quick and holds up really well because... well it's meant for calipers. But the stupid store by my house didn't have it in white so i just went with duplicolor car paint for both since it was pretty much all they had that seemed worth anything. But let's just say hypothetically if i were to put them in the oven... would it dry quicker and hold up better like it does with powder coating?? or would i just be wasting my time?

    Re: hmmm.... i wonder

You probably wouldn't want to ever make any food in that oven after that.

The paint may be drying slower depending on how thick the coat is and the humidity. A mild heat lamp should help speed it up. Something like just a desk lamp with a 100W bulb or so.

    Re: hmmm.... i wonder

yeah i was thinking about using a lamp, i have a bunch of 100 watt bulbs and a desk lamp in my room. But what's weird to me is that i barely put any on there. I did really light sprays and waited like 10 seconds between each spray just until i couldn't see primer anymore and i stopped. No drips and no build up anywhere. So i don't understand why this is taking so long. It was about mid 70's today and partly windy and i left it in the sunlight with the wind lightly blowing on it for over 8 hours and it's still not dry. I've never had a paint take this long for anything. Usually it's like an hour later and i can put on the next coat.

put it in an air-conditioned room under a lamp and you should be good... you dont want to put plastic badges in the oven for long, they could melt or get soft themselves.

    Re: hmmm.... i wonder

good point, didn't think about melting. No oven. I put the 2nd coat on after light sanding with some fine grit paper. I put on a very light coat so hopefully this one will dry quicker. I just have it sitting in my garage on my work bench so we'll see. I couldn't find that damn lamp though . i'm just gonna have to wait it out. I'm about half way done depending on if i want to do that clear coat or not. Any opinions just for kicks, clear coat or no clear coat?

If the paint is not adhering correctly, maybe it went it too thick, baking may do the trick, but a couple things to watch out for: 1. The smell, make sure you ventilate very well, the fumes not only stink, but can be hazardous. 2. if the paint dries to fast because of the heat, it may crack.

    Re: hmmm.... i wonder

i decided against the oven. But now i'm debating on whether or not i want to be 1/2 done or 2/3 done. So adding a clear coat seems like it would help hold up against the crazy bipolar washington whether and tons of rain. But i don't know if it's really worth it. 3 coats seems like it should be enough right?

And also putting this damn acura badge back on is the tough part. Most badges are easy to get to and easy to take off. This one i had to remove the back honey comb grill that is attached to her front bumper and also being stopped by her hood latch. So basically i had to remove the hood latch first, then remove about 10 screws, 5 of which are about 2 inches away from her FMIC, all just to get to honeycomb grill off so i could remove the badge. So about 10 screws and about 6 bolts later... it was a bitch. And the worst part is she actually needs to drive her car... psshh, who drives their cars right? So i had to reassemble it all without the badge only to have to disassemble it again to put it back on and yet again reassemble it . Gosh quick drying paint would have been sweet.
