dropped my car off at ESP to get a clutch done, and i just got a call from them telling me i could pick the car up. they said the test drive took a bit longer because one of the intercooler pipes popped off... if an intercooler pipe popped off then what the hell were they boosting to?? im worried because this clutch had ZERO miles on it and they tell me the intercooler pipes blew off so they must have ripped on it. im going up in a few minutes anything i should mention to them, or ask?

    Re: uh oh!

If they fixed the problem for free why complain. It's better that it happened to them while it was their time. It is also fairly standard to take a test drive after any service I would be concerned if a shop did no push my car a little bit. After all, their experience might let them in on a problem that you might not recognize.

    Re: uh oh!

i dont think he's aware of proper clutch break-in procedure but i would be a little weary. ive heard good things about ESP but that sounds kida messed up... i would just ask them in a calm collected manor why they were driving it under boost when it has a clutch with zero miles on it. im sure they have some BS answer that you can then share back here and we can all laugh at. i'd just let it go because im a pushover but im sure some ppl would yell at them. nothing else you can do but i dont think that makes anything better so id just ask them nicely wtf they were doing.

What does EPL have to do with anything? This post is about ESP. And yes, you get what you pay for from EPL. They are one of the best in business.

S4evr: Going WOT on a new clutch isn't the worst thing in the world. As long as the clutch is fully engaged, going WOT shouldn't hurt anything. It's the hard shifts and the launches that is not good to do on a new clutch. You should still avoid WOT until it's broken in, but I'm sure your clutch is fine. And if, by chance, it's not... it's on them.

    Re: uh oh!

i went up last night to pick it and just sorta calmly asked which pipe blew off.. one thing led to another and next thing i know i was talking to the mechanic that was test driving it. he said he didnt rip on it, just gave it 1/2 - 3/4 throttle reaching about 15 lbs o boost. i guess only time will tell to see if he really screwed something up. Other than that, the clutch is soo grabby (vast ceramic hybrid) that i stalled the car twice haha and the 034 street tranny mounts and jhm delrin bushing really made it feel tighter.

Have any of your hoses ever popped off before at 15lbs? Hmm...maybe he has trouble reading the boost gauge in addition to proper clutch break in procedures.

Also, in the long run, do you think that if you go there in a few months and explain to them your clutch is f'ed up, they're gonna honor it? They can argue that you beat the shit out of the car too...you're between a rock and a hard place man, but if I were you I'd just deal with it and let it go. Make sure them hoses don't pop off anymore!

yea exactly.. im gonna have a real hard time blaming them on such a wearable item if anything goes wrong in the future.

I pulled my fmic off a couple weeks back to repaint the pipes, and since then havent boosted because of my old clutch. It is very possible that i didnt get a hose all the way on the pipe when i tightened it so it finally blew when he gave it some gas. it was also at a connection where i was still using a worm drive clamp instead of a t style clamp.

    Re: uh oh!

I second ya on that. I took mine in for a no start situation, turned out to be a bad ground. When I pick it up, they say, "Man that's the fastest car we've had in here". Didn't even know what to say about that.

    Re: uh oh!

You can be making 10 psi and a hose can still pop off. I wouldn't be too worried. But like you said before, you repainted your stuff, so go back and make sure you tighten them up. It just takes one weak link.

    Re: uh oh!

dave did the same thing with my old car when I went stage 3 with a new CM stg 3 clutch. he was just like, break in the clutch before hammering it, lol. he know's what he's doing so he knew he wasn't going to screw it up. Don't worry about it. just break in for at least 500 miles
