What's the best mods I can get for $400-450?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My car is stg 2+, so I'm not looking for any performance gain.

I was thinking maybe a jdm ss: $250
    Podi boost gauge: $250
drivetrain stabilization: Need opinions and advice on this one cuz there's so many options, I just want whats best for the money and what works the best.

Please any and all input is welcome
    TIA

Since, your stage 2+ and it doesn't seem that you already have a boost gauge...that should be first on your list.

Yea that's what I was really leaning towards, I just wanna squeeze something else into my budget. I really want a short throw shifter but the jdm one is so expensive. Is winston offering any discounts on the stepper gauges?

Get a VDO and cut the hole yourself in the vent to mount it. That will cost you less than 50 all together.

a VDO?? I don't want to lose any of my vents that's why I'm leaning towards the podi setup, I like the clean look of it. IDK maybe i'll just settle for the stewart warner gauge, is it really that big of a difference? Do the lights match up with the cluster lights?

I'd buy some 034 motor+ trany mounts to prepare for a stage 3 job.

Re: What's the best mods I can get for $400-450?

do the motor and tranny mounts offer substantial drivetrain stabilization, cuz right now aside from the boost gauge, I'm lookin for smoother, faster shifts. Oh and I'm a college so stage 3 is in the far distant future for me, praying my turbos don't blow before then

edit: forgot to knock on wood for the turbos (knock knock)

How much is the podi? I have a stuart warner guage and had it put in the a pillar with matching fabric. Its an option if you want to retain your vents.

That and I hear that KO3's are making a comeback as one of the best turbos ever made for this platform. . .

To the OP get the JHM SS. To date, it's been one of my best mods besides coilovers.

Alright as of now i'm getting the jhm ss hands down, excellent website and i love how he has all the install videos and what not on there.
But is it worth it to pay $250 for the stepper podi gauge? I wish I got in on that $50 discount he had going on.

Well cash is the limiting factor so if i get the jhm ss should i keep the stock length or go with the 1" shorter? This is the only manual car I've driven so I don't know what to expect.
Can anyone with the podi gauge chime in here? Is the sleekness and stepper gauge worth the $250??

The same thing that's wrong with every other aftermarket short shifter. It reuses the crappy oem parts that make the stock shifter feel like a plunger in a toilet.

What do you mean softer reverse spring. the website only has options for stiff and medium. Or is soft the standard one it comes with?

    Welll...

You can get a meth kit for about 300. Untuned and unistalled of course. It is easy to install a meth kit though.

You can DIY a boost gauge for about 50 and depending on your skills it should look dece.

So technically you can do both.

Re: What's the best mods I can get for $400-450?

okay this opening up some new doors for me. Will I see real power gains from a meth kit or is it just to prevent heatsoak and help the engine run cooler? Also I'm not a car mechanic diyer by any means, only thing I've done personally is the tbb and DV's so how technical is the install and how much to get it tuned properly. I've seen a few guys on here running meth but only a few if it's so cheap and simple to install why don't more ppl have it?
And I guess I could settle for a cheaper boost gauge but I love the style of the podi and I don't wanna lose a vent and there's no way I'd be able to fab one into the pillar.

Any and all other opinions I'd appreciate
Also wat about a ss is it worth the 250?

People are scared to run it.

If you are tuned for it you will see more power. If not, you will run better and see a bit of power. With meth you can advance timing and work the boost fairly hard. Essentially like running race gas all of the time.

podi stepper motor guage set up is awesome. pod fits perfect, easy to install and matches perfect. Has a boost warning and max boost recall. It is a little pricey but i think it was worth it. Also i doesnt really block the dash that much. Just like the 0-20mph range but who cars about that.

Well, since your already stg 2, I'd go 50 boost gauge, and maybe score some used Valeo Ecodes, or try the ebay ones. I'd also get a 55w HID kit, cus if yours is like mine, there not even blue anymore..(only when they turn on)

I think mine are still bright white, I noticed there very blue when i turn em on but then a bit after that i've never really noticed. I think there still pretty bright just not blue blue bright if that makes sense. I'm gonna research more about a meth kit cuz it sounds very interesting, thanks guys
