    Project Rally

    It's a 96 2.8 5spd awd (S-line?) with 100k on the clock

Picked her up from a local that rolled/tipped it after sliding off the road in to deep snow for $500

Its stripped, but it has a good title, the engine had a new timing belt and some other work done b4 it was wrecked. (as you can see the timing belt is not on the pulleys right now)

Originally picked her up for random parts i may need for the S, now i can't decide whether to sell it to a junk yard or turn it into a rally car for the endless dirt roads we have in Montana

I'm tired of spraying rocks on my paint and just plain beating up the S having fun on the dirt, with this car i would have no worries/regrets so i'm leaning towards rally... what do you guys think?

    Plans:

    New starter :(
    External Roll Cage
    New Radiator
Finish torching off the trunk and other panels i don't need
    Aftermarket Fuel Cell

Sits up high with all that weight reduction

Hard to believe this car once had monitors in the headrests

A rally car would be sweet, but I think you may be close to the point of no return! It would cost more than the car's worth to get it road worthy

That isn't a platform for a rally car it is a donor car to supplement another build. The B5 chassis just isn't a good rally platform. We don't have the suspension strength for it and the aftermarket just isn't there. Buy a Subaru GC8 Impreza and drop in some DMS 40 suspension and an STI drivetrain. Instant rally car.

    My word, that car's busted!

It's a ruin! Good for donating parts to a worthy car, but as for getting her roadworthy again, you'll be venturing into S4 money territory...

i think you should definitely strip the remaining body panels and see how long it lasts with offroading.

    Re: Project Rally

if it could be made drivable and relatively safe with minimal effort, i would say go for it, but i wouldnt put very much actual cash into makling it happen. It would certainly be fun to have something to thrash on, but not worth throwing alot of money at. Just have to figure how much realistically you would have to put into it to make its safe enough to drive, aswell as make it fun, then decide if for that same money you could just buy something else that might be a better candidate. Does it move under its own power as it sits right now? certainly a fun idea though! However if you do decide to go through with it pics and videos will be a must!!!
