    Re: spray painting rims

1st take the wheels off the car and clean the hell out of them. then u might want to wet-sand the rim. you'll know your done it will just take the shine away then was the rim again. now mask off your. and paint it. im going to say your around 4 coats should be good. then depending if u want the gloss give it a couple of nice gloss coats

Is this reletively simple to do? I was opting for powdercoating the avus's but its kinda pricey including the umounting, mounting etc.... Thanks.

I used just some green scotch bright and that worked perfect. If you can get some adhesion promoter and spray it on before you paint it will make things easier.

    Oh and

Get some 3x5 cards and put in between the tire and the wheel.. That way you wont have to dismount the tire and there wont be any over spray

i was going to mention this...only to help the spray paint from chipping off. it should definitely provided a better bond to the wheel if you use the promoter.

    Re: spray painting rims

Don't...... I have spray painted at least 3 sets of wheels and although they looked great at first they then tend to chip and look like crap after awhile. I would suggest getting them powdercoated or professionally re-finished, unless ofcourse you don't care then spray paint them yourself.

Here is the last set I did myself when I had my GTI, and although they looked great after a few months you could see chips here and there so I got them re-painted by a pro the same way.

    Please dont spray paint.

Spend the extra cash and get them powder coated. You will be glad you did so a few months down the road.

    Re: spray painting rims

I had a few sets done and I paid around $250 if I recall correctly. I had both sets coated w/ this color called "silver vain" that was like black and grey speckle, so not sure if that was more than a solid color.

I wouldn't rattle can them, but that's just me.

Powercoating is not worth the money. If prepped properly the paint will stick as well as the powdercoat and won't cost you nearly as much.

Powdercoating is more durable than any paint job.
