I purchased a new set of wheels for my wife's A6 that did not have the TPMS so I ended up buying them through tire rack

take them off your stockers and put them on your aftermarket wheels. should work in most applications without a problem.

    Re: TPMS on Aftermarket Wheels

Does anything need to be vag'd??? Or is it pretty much a direct transfer with no adjustments necessary?

    Re: TPMS on Aftermarket Wheels

The TPMS sensors are inside the tires attached to the valve stem. You can reuse the sensors from your stock wheels, but you will have to dismount the tires first.

Purchasing a second set of sensors is another option. That way you have 1 set always on standby for that next set of wheels/tires.

The last option of course is to just disable the TPMS sensors using the VAG.

    Re: TPMS on Aftermarket Wheels

$350??? They're around $40 at the dealer's parts dept. You don't VAG anything unless you want to disable TPMS monitoring. Just reset the tire pressure memory.

    Mike,
would you tell us (or at least me) how to disable the TPMS reading through VAG?
dealers say it can't be done, but I'm wondering if anyone has successfully done this on an '08 A4.
    thanks!

You need one sensor (4F0 907 275 b) and one valve stem (4D0 601 361) per corner. At Audi list prices, that's $86.15 for each sensor and $26.60 for each valve stem or $451 for all 4. Even with discounts from, say, GAP, you're looking at $311.16/set

That's really weird, because I had to buy one from my dealer (the tire shop broke one of the rubber seals during wheel swap) and it comes as a whole set (sensor, stem, seals and washers) for $41.

The sensor comes separately from the valve stem. Most likely, they replaced only the valve stem and over charged for the part like one of the Audi dealers in my area likes to do.

Yes, it can be done. I did it on my 2008 A4. This is what I did on my VAG-COM:

    1) Go to 17-Instruments
    2) choose Adaptation
    3) choose Channel 61.
    4) Subtract 512 from the value you find there.

    no more TPMS!

I have 4 set of wheels/tires and there was no way I was going to buy sensors for them all. I check my pressures often anyway so I don't need TPMS.

    great!
I found the same info on audiworld a while ago, but no one confirmed it worked.

    another question:
do I need the full version of VAG-COM or does the ebay one work as well?
    TIA!

I bought the set myself at the parts counter. I wanted to buy just the stem with the rubber seal, but they showed me that it comes as a whole set with the sensor. I have an '08, so maybe it's different for earlier models, but I doubt it.

Not according to ETKA. Part No: 4d0601361 (11) is for the "metal valve for models with tyre [sic] pressure monitor (wireless radio sys.)" and lists for about $27. The sensor is a completely different part: 4F0907275b (10).

You can also go to http://www.genuineaudiparts.com and plug those part numbers in to see what I mean.
