I'm thinking about getting a set of HRE M40s or P40s, but totally not convinced, but I guess there monoblock wheels haven't gotten the reputation of their 3 piece wheels yet. Think they are worth it?

However, then comes the replica complex... No matter which wheel you choose, the public will see the same wheel and think your car looks good. But, spend an extra $5,000, and you'll have the pride and respect from enthusiasts from of having authentic HRE wheels. No matter how I word it, one is better but the other saves you a ton of money. Soooo... which is worth it to you

I'll keep my champions prob will be more of a track or autox wheel. Heard the HREs weighed around 20-21 for a 19 inch M40.

Those VMR's weigh 26lbs. If you're not going to track the car and aren't planning to do real competition, save your money. I don't think 6 pounds is going to kill your handling.

^^^^That's not bad at all given the dimensions of the actual wheel.
When I had my one off wheels on my B6 they were 23lbs each. Knockoffs came around soon enough and were over 5lbs each more.
That weight. especially on the wheels\drivetrain area, makes a HUGE difference.

Well its not just about the weight. if your going to do something, do it right the first time. I mean a forged wheel is just going to be stronger rather than a cast wheel and if that means less trouble if I do run into a pot hole in these shitty Chicago roads sometime, I would gladly pay the extra 5 grand to save me all the time consuming problems in fixing wheels granted these one piece forged wheels are as strong as my champions.

I might end up going with the reps, although I HATE reps, but I can't help it. I love the style so much and will not be affording the real deal anytime soon.

Well its not just about the weight. if your going to do something, do it right the first time. For $1k vs $5k, you can buy a whole extra set of wheels with tires and swap one out if you ever bend a wheel - AND pocket the extra $3K.

Knockoffs are China made and cost maybe $30 per wheel plus shipping to get here. Wheels\brakes are your cars life or death mainstay.
I wouldn't trust my life or those riding in my car to an unproven untested wheel at 70mph on the freeway with semi trucks around me.
That's my answer to NOT buying reps and low quality items.

I agree with part of this, the part where you want something quality below you , but not all reps are not good quality. Just playing devil's advocate but I wouldn't get something that gives me worries to save a buck.

HREs are some of the best boutique/aftermarket wheels made. Naysayers will come, but bottom line, you see more of them on cars as pictured above (CLK63 Black Series, 911 Turbo, etc.) than most any other aftermarket wheel options. If you had them on your A4, it would be legendary. Go for it!

^^^Oh I can agree with this.
It was more of a broad statement.
There's always exceptions to everything and some people have great success with reps or other knockoffs, I even know of one place that makes them in house in the good ol US.
To me, like I said, it's practically a life or death choice in this area though, so the risk isn't worth a few penny's saved, IMO of course.

Those look VERY nice! Make sure you get some good wheel locks for them, and keep them clean so people notice the $ you spent

How long did they take to get? Longer than it took me to get my Jlines? (we can't compare though, I bought mine at the beginning of "wheel season")

Thanks guys, and yes, I already have wheel locks on them. They would have taken about 4-6 weeks if I had ordered them out of stock, but I called up wheels boutique and they had a customer cancel an order that was exactly mine 19x8.5 et 35 in silver so I picked them up and only waited like 2 weeks.
