    Lets get things started

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well as some of you know, I am starting my build. After 150K of driving, 50K of that on T28, I am ready for an upgrade. I have been working with Issam and Jeff at 034 to create a build that will be strong, powerful, and reliable. As some of you know, I started a build about 2 years ago aquiring a 034 IIc standalone, some fueling components and other misc items. I ditched the project because I was not finished with school yada yada yada. Well, here I am, back just like I said I would.

Plan is to keep it a 1.8 but make it rev :) 8200RPM will be the redline. My AEB head will be sent out for a re-build and to install the new springs and retainers. I am having Chris Tapp tweak one of his programs to fit my needs.

    Anyways, on with the goodies.

    Garrett GT3071R
    MAHLE pistons 8.5.1 CR
    Scat 144mm rods
    Eurospec main girtle kit
    SPA manifold
    Tial 38mm ex wastegate
    034 fuel rail
    034 fuel gauge
    034 FPR
    034 oil lines
    034 track density mounts
    630 cc Injectors
    Bosch 044 fuel pump
    034 FMIC
    Innovate wideband w/ gauge
    Custom Downpipe
    OEM gaskets (new)
    OEM oil pump (new)
    Raceware hardware
    Vortex Catch Can
    High Rate Valve spring set
    Titanium retainers

    Pics are more fun:

    upside down lol

I also picked up a spare AEB motor to start the build on. Someone buy my T28 kit! Argggghhh

oh good! well the file is MAF based so i doesnt need tweaks for higher boost unless you really want to drop the timing to add boost... that method doesnt produce the best numbers and you shouldnt need to retard timing with your CR anyways... so whats he tweaking besides the redline?

Thats pretty much it. Any BAT should make good numbers revving it up. Nothing spectacular. There are probably 20 cars running around with the 3071 + ctapp. I am just running more boost and rev. Hoping for good numbers.

There is no good narrowband tunes for me imo... your setup is fairly generic, mind is far from that... you will have no problems with tapp, he is the best me5 tuner imo, uni the best me7 tuner... i have the 3071r file with 93 and meth tunes on it if you are interested

    Re: Lets get things started

    UPDATE:
PES T28 is out. Wow that was a PITA. SPA manifold is on. Turbo is on. I am awaiting my FMIC from 034 and also the V-band clamp kit so I can get started on my downpipe. Monday I plan to make some oil and water lines for the turbo. We have a few stores around town with all the AN fittings I will need. I also installed the 034 fuel gauge. Neato. It is fun seeing this all come together!

Also painted the bay black finally. I have been a real lazy slob.

Yes my valve cover is purple.

Rob, the ecu, maf and pigtail harness are in the mail... Also I forgot to tell you youd need the metal maf adapter flange to run a 4" filter off of it, so I put that in too... Also included a wire chart for which color goes to which color on my 98.5 AEB, I told Arnold I had an AEB and he sent me that, so I think it shoudl work for you too ... All was carefully packaged up and sent to you yesterday, let me know when you get it!

No, Sorry I should have been more clear. I have not started building it yet. Reason I pulled my T28 off is because I have a buyer for it and he wants it on his car soon. I installed the 3071 while I build my other motor. I plan for that motor to be finished in about a month or so.

    Re: Lets get things started

3 days and the turbo setup is finished. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to make all the lines. That sucked but it was a good learning experience.

Chris Tapp intake setup (for search results)

    Making the downpipe

Right now my vacuum lines are completely tangled in a mess. I am going to re-route them tomorrow so the car actually runs. Catch can and the wideband will also go in.

It was a LONG day. I am off to bed. VIDEO coming soon!

Looking good, how did you add that port to the silicone hose for the diverter valve? Also, the lightning MAF likes to have as much straight section before and after the sensor as possible to avoid turbulence. Just something to think about, I went through probably 4 intake setups before I got a car that ran right and wouldn't stall out all the time.

Hmm that makes sense. I am having some issues with the car stalling right now. Do you have a pic of your setup? Is it in one of the tapp intake threads?

    Re: Lets get things started

Just got back from a trip. The car is not boosting properly. Could it be because of not running the 2nd O2 sensor? The car drives fine, but hesitates to build any boost. It almost seems like my plugs could be fouled out. My Innovate wideband is not installed yet.

Does anyone have any other ideas? My first thought was a boost leak. Hmmm?

Here's some not very good pics of my intake setup, I had a different manifold than you though. It's kind of hard to tell in the photos, but the intake goes: airfilter, adapter, maf, steel reducer welded to 90 degree bend. I also found that running the DV port at an angle in the same direction as airflow really helped with driveability as well.

How did you put that hose port for your DV in the silicone hose?

As far as your boosting issue, did you remember to put the fire ring in the wastegate?

Rob, you HAVE to make that inlet longer and wrap up under the frame, or something along those lines. the MAF is way too close to the turbo and the car will most like idle/part throttle like poo.

Took a plastic PVC adapter used for household plumbing and ported it through. Air sealed it with silicon. Ghetto, but it works.

I got my wastegate through the vortex classifieds, so I have no idea. I will pull it off tomorrow and take a look at it.

Piggie MBC. Pretty much the brass ones you can make at the hardware store. I have it on the same setting as my T28 setup had.

Thanks for the input. I will play around with other options. Right now I am using a ITG foam filter and it is literally about .5" from hitting my AC belt just next to the condenser. I will take a picture tomorrow from under the car looking up.

Once again, thanks everyone for your advice and input.
