I just bought the rs4 grill for my a4 and I am now looking for some black mesh to match my lower bumper with the grill. Anyone knows where to get some that is in plastic or not cheap looking metal??

    Re: rs4 lower mesh

Finding it pre-cut is getting kind of difficult these days. Used to be a guy who sold them via eBay by the name of Andy Sprauge (got mine from him for like 60 bucks, shipped... not too sure of the spelling), but I haven't been able to track him down again.

I think some people said that the ones from the Allroad would work with some modifications, but those are probably too damn expensive since it's a factory part.

Cheapest way is to get some expanded metal and do it yourself... a good search will probably give you some other ideas as well.

This reminds me, I need to clean mine up and give them a coat of paint soon.

I am doing the same thing to my car. I found a guy selling 3 peices he had that were from LLtek, ABS plastic. I also called them prior to me finding these on ebay and they said that they do indeed sell the ABS plastic is quantity amounts to the specification you would need. Just tell them the dimensions you would require, and they will give you a price quote. And yes, it is ABS plastic and not metal mesh.

I have couple of small pieces of left over from when I was sold the mesh... look through my old posts for the thread.

    Re: rs4 lower mesh

I also have one peice left in dimmensions 6.5"x18.5". It is enough to cut out 2 lower side grill inserts. You would then need to source out a bigger peice for the middle lower insert.

The set I bought came in 2-6.5"x18.5" and 1-6.5"x30.5" sheets. The bigger sheet does not have enough mesh left for another insert, but you could use one of the smaller peices for 2 lower grills for the stock bumper. I cut both out from one sheet.

FYI, that yellow note has the measurements of the stock RS4 grill openings. That is what I used to find the aluminum mesh from mcmaster.

Now that I know they look good I'll pull them back out and paint them with Plasti-Dip spray or have them powdercoated satin black. The plate filler was sprayed temporarily awhile back and needs to be professionally done in brilliant black. Probably fill and smooth the four holes at that time too.

This is the McMaster aluminum mesh, part number 9305T54.
The 9305T54 mesh is slightly larger than the RS4 grill mesh with a 72% open area. The 9305T54 openings are .687" x 1.75". It isn't hard to get all three grills out of one 24x24 piece.

    Re: rs4 lower mesh

The aluminum mesh has held up perfectly fine with two exceptions.

One, the gloss black spray paint didn't hold up to our salty winter roads. The center plate painted with Plastidip spray did so I stripped and resprayed the grills with it. They look more stock now with the different sheen.

Two, the zipties I used broke when I got ran off the road and plowed into a massive snowdrift. The drift spun me nearly 180* at 40 mph on a 4 lane road. The grill itself was fine but I put off fixing the zip ties until one day the grill was gone. Totally preventable and not the grill's fault.

When I got home that day:

After pulling half a snowman out of the bumper. The ice on the headlights, bumper, and hood is about 1/4" thick and thicker in some places. Winter is fun.
