Help me decide, 18" or 19"

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I want to get these for my silver Avant. I think they'd look hot. Just cant decide which size, 18 or 19". I do not have the sport suspension, i dont want it to look like a 4x4...just something thats going to look sporty and tasteful.

Let me know what you guys think.

Here's a pic of the Avant:

Re: Help me decide, 18" or 19"

Without sport suspension, 18s or 19s with low profile tires will = 4x4 look.

whichever you get, you're going to be looking into lowering your car next, since the wheel gap will be ridiculous.

Re: Help me decide, 18" or 19"

Yes you will want to lower your car either way, yes its expensive but the height will haunt you. I made the same mistake only because I was in such a rush to get my rims. Now my 2002 sport suspension will be going on tomorrow after being haunted by 4x4 look since Easter time. The most inexpensive way to lower, if you dont wanna drop $1500ish on coils, which, I dont blame you, buy a used 2002 sport suspension (around $200 used) or do an aftermarket spring/shock setup if you're willing to spend a little more ($800ish)

I'm sort of in the same boat as the OP. Dont know if I want RS4 reps in 18 or 19's.
I have ABT Springs on already w/sport shocks.

Re: Help me decide, 18" or 19"

^thats a good point. I do plan to drive this in the winter with snow...one of the main reasons i bought this car with the quatro. Not to worry, I'll put be putting the stockers back on for winter. But, if I lower it + with the stock 16" rims I think it might be too low for snow.

So, how bad will the wheel wells be with stock suspension + 18s? Anyone got pics of this arrangement? And how about tire sizes to fill in some of the well? I dont want huge sidewalls either but I agree if I go low profile the wells will be huge.

The 16's will be the same hieght approximatly on lowered suspension as the 18" or 19", you'll just have more sidwall on your tire..

I saw that thread. Car looks hot.
Funny, A4's are one of those few cars that once lowered and a NICE set of wheels are added...makes it look like it's in a car club or something.
I guess its the fender flares or something.

I think I get what you're saying, but I'm worried the ground clearance will be too low for the winter on the stock 16s once i lower it. How much drop is the sport suspension over the basic suspension?

Roughly .75" from stock to sport suspension.

02 might be an inch, tops, since it's the lowest height. You shouldn't worry about clearance at all with an OEM sport suspension setup, plus it looks crazy good! (the 02)

Go for the 19's...they look better on the B6's. I've found no appreciable difference in ride quality between 18's and 19's, although I guess one could argue 18's (with their higher profile tires) would stand up better to potholes.

Stock Sport suspension would be nice too...I'll let you know if I sell mine!

what about stock B6 S4 suspension? How different is it from the sport suspension, is it better/worse, lower/higher, etc.

i believe the rear suspension geometry is different on the B7 and S4.. also the front spring rates on the S4 are probably higher to hold up the big V8..

i am still deciding on 18" vs. 19" for my USP Avant.. SableA4 and dougyfresh are both rockin 18" on their avants and theirs looks great.. i am concern about crappy roads and $$$.. so all things considered i was planning on 18", but this thread is pulling me toward the dark side..

are there any pics out there of R8 reps on a B6 avant??..

^um, yeah I just ordered the above R8 black/silver wheels in 19", since Alloy R Us is offering them at a steal right now. I'll wait around for a good used sport suspension to go on sale. I see a brand new set on eBay right now, $500.

Re: Help me decide, 18" or 19"

Its a done deal, I ordered 19s. You guys think the R8 black/silver wheels will look good? I've seen many pics of 19s on these cars but with a huge lip and they look great. These barely have a lip at all, kinda worried a lil. i'm with fritzner, i'd really like to see a set of 19" R8 wheels on an A4.

Ahh found this in alloy-r-us ebay store. These are the R8s, no pics of the black ones on the car tho.

Those wheels look good and you just did the right thing by ordering 19's and once you get that '02 sport suspension you will be a happy man!

    God luck with it all.
