    I need a recommendation

If I had an itch to do a modification and only wanted to spend a few hundred bucks at the most, what would you recommend. I have a 3.0l and I'm actually looking for it to be louder. I thought about getting a pair of mufflers but I'm not sure if I can justify paying a few hundred on 2 mufflers when a full exhaust is about 3 times that. I'm concerned it'd be too loud out the back with a quiet motor. Anything that'd be fun to install under the hood counts as an option too.

I'm having trouble searching for ideas b/c most threads are about the 1.8t.

I'm not really concerned about power gains b/c I doubt I'd feel the minimal gains a few hundred bucks would gain me. I just want a new toy that makes the car a bit louder and rumble.

    Re: I need a recommendation

I think Magnaflow 14851's are the one's to get. About 250 or so online.

I know the 1.8 guys are running them and they sound decent.

    Re: I need a recommendation

Those mufflers are at the top of my list right now after hearing some sound clips on youtube last night. My only worry is that it'd be too "ricey" to just have mufflers and that the rear would be too loud for the car (since the motor is fairly quiet).

I'm not concerned about power gains at all... MAYBE if a go-fast part changed throttle response or power band, I might could do something like that over sound... but mostly I'm choosing to be content since I know nothing short of a supercharger would be worth going after power gains.

    Re: I need a recommendation

Magnaflow 14851 Mufflers is the best thing u can do to your 3.0 and it wont sound ricey at all, its actually a very deep tone and its perfect for our cars. I got mine of Hottexhaust.com back last December for like $198 shipped with a coupon name "hottsavings".

After last december they went up in price a little bit and now you can get them for $235 shipped total with same coupon name.

First of all they sound bad ass i gotta say and they look good, its not worth getting a full exhaust for the 3.0 engine cuz it doesnt do much in hp gain so the mufflers are plenty. Oh and any muffler shop can install them because some cutting and welding is needed to get these put in and most shops charge about $100-$150.

If you decide you want to get these go to Hottexhaust.com and in the search box put in "14851" and the muffler picture will come up and click on them and put in the quantity "2" and go to check out and in there you click on coupon name and input "hottsavings" and check out. They are located in Canada i believe and there shipping is like a week out or so.

Anyhow i had a great experience with this company and im more then pleased with the mufflers.

    Sorry for the long reply!

Let me know if you have any other questions, feel free to ask or pm me!

    Re: I need a recommendation

Wow, I wasn't going to get these... but I think both deals are too good to pass up. I put them in my shopping cart at amazon and hottexhaust. 194 shipped at amazon and 234 at hottexhaust.

i appreciate the input from both of you.

I just have to go out and measure first. I have the factory body kit and I'm not sure if there would be any issues fitting such a large outlet.

Anyone have any photos with the factory body kit?

    Re: I need a recommendation

thats cheap!!... im still wondering on the mufflers though.. cause it looks as if i may need new resonator back piping as well, and if i were to get the mufflers and straight pipe it, it would be way too loud and raspy... or so ive heard, so its like i pay 200 for mufflers and a few more hundred for resonators then some more on piping... plus instal.. thats almost catback price range

    Re: I need a recommendation

If you do just the mufflers you dont need to do anything to the Resonators or any piping, if you get the mufflers all you have to have the shop do is cut off old mufflers and make connectors for the new mufflers. My total for the mufflers plus install was $350 which is like 1/3 of the cost of a full catback exhaust that does ALMOST nothing but cost more. Maybe a hp or two in gain if that...... So if your looking for a deeper tone to your car and nothing else and you have a 3.0 or a 1.8T then this is the way to go!

    Re: I need a recommendation

pipe is prob ok. just rusty LOOKING.

get the magnaflows. its not remotely raspy.

if you do a cat back, with no resonators, then yes, you won't like it. and you will want to put in a couple of resonators. but then you'll love it!

You can chip it for $500 give or take a little depending on one the one you get.
it's not going to kick you in the ass like a supercharger but it will give your car a very nice performance boost.

Ummm, the chip for a 3.0 gives about 6-10HP and 6-12TQ (and that's GIAC's numbers). Most tuners overestimate their own software too. So I'd say software on a 3.0 is a waste.
