    Full exhaust systems and CEL's

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi everyone. For those running full custom exhaust systems, (not just catback), can you please share your experiences with sensors, cats and check engine lights? I'd also like to hear advice from those running bolt on systems like APR, Milltek, etc.

I haven't seen any threads with people complaining or even asking about it. I figured it would be a more commonly talked about issue.

oh and Hi... I'm new here

Re: Full exhaust systems and CEL's

i have a full custom exhaust. i cant tell u wat brand i am running, but i do have a quad tip exhuast with custom 2.5 piping running from the downpipe. and i never have had a CEL or anything. but once i added my eurocode testpipe i get a CEL so basically anything after the cat u will be fine. changing out downpipes and things like that u r fine because their is no O2 sensor on those. i have a 2.0T btw.

Full Milltek here on RS4, only 4k miles but no issues.

I'm new here too, are you S4 or RS4?

Re: Full exhaust systems and CEL's

Thanks you guys, appreciate the feedback! I'm an S4 GotRS.
I was going to take a trip to so. cal and hit up a muffler shop to have some piping done and pick up a couple magnaflows or something equivalant. Ideally I'd like to run a full system, and I guess my question is how do I avoid throwing codes? For you local guys, if you have recommended shops that are open on the weekends I'm all ears. I've had experience with Valley Muffler in La Puente but this was years ago when I was in the Honda camp and OBDII was new technology.

If you are coming to L.a then there is only one place that you should be going to. Fast Intentions! Don't waste a long drive on some ghetto muffler shop. If you come down, give some of the guys in L.A a heads up and possibly we can do a meet somewhere.

Re: Full exhaust systems and CEL's

I bought a set of used Labree downpipes and mated it to a new Labree catback. I am assuming it was one of the bad batches, because I got a CEL in about 1 day after the install and the cats themselves were in perfect visual shape (I was flashing a cats below efficiency code). I drove it this way for about 1 month, and, after a bit of searching various subaru and audi forums, I found a guy who made CNC'd O2 sensor spacers (Wayne Angle Block) for a lot of the turbo guys running test pipes.

I installed those, cleared my codes, and I haven't had a CEL since (about 500 miles). I am keeping my fingers crossed it stays this way.

Full LaBree system with no CEL here, tho the previous owner of the LaBree system did say they got a CEL. Been running it for 3+ months.
