Looking for the right TIP (Turbo Inlet Pipe)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I am thinking of buying a TIP for my K03 setup . I realize the gains are very small maybe 5whp? I want one that fits good. I assume from my searches they all perfom very close?

The APR is cheap at $160.
The ARP Solid 3" seems nice but may only fit the aftermarket turbos well? $270
The forge looks good but I am having a hard time finding it forsale. $???
Neuspeed TIP looks larger then others. $250

    Any others I should consider?

    Thanks
    Ralph

I went with the Forge. It fits great and doesn't collapse under vacuum like the stocker. Not as expensive as neuspeed either.

This is where I got it.

A TIP will not add any power, it will only keep you from recovering lost power. I recommend the Neuspeed extreme because it has a larger inlet and is the ideal TIP if you ever decide to go with a eliminator series turbo.

I JUST bought an APR (Red) TIP and I just now found out it doesn't work with a Carbonio so it might be up for sale soon in the classifieds!

Do you have a website? I would like to get my TIP by Friday. Trying to get the car put back together.

    Dolphin18T
I have a 2004 so with the Forge would I have to plug a hole? BTW great link. How was this vendor to deal with?

As far as the Neuspeed goes, I think I would rather buy a hard TIP for that kind of money. I see at least it has two part numbers so you don't have to plug any holes:)

Anyone know how the ATP Hard Tip fits the K03? Looks like a nice kit for the money.http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...ory_Code=VVWTK

Re: Looking for the right TIP (Turbo Inlet Pipe)

it would really help n00bs like me if people would offer information along with opinion. meaning: too many people say things like: "i have this part. it works great" but they don't tell you where they got it or for how much.
or "those parts suck" but they don't tell you why.
I value your opinions as much as your information. thanks for the help.

now i gotta search for days and days on why "APR products just plain suck"

ps. thanks for the info Dolphin18T

Re: Looking for the right TIP (Turbo Inlet Pipe)

APR products suck because as of late their quality control seems to be taking a nap. I think it was Winston that showed an aPR exhaust where both welds broke on a resonator. There have been quite a few people that have issues with the TIP's rubbing on the headlight (me) as well as tons of people havng their snub mounts break in two (me again). Not to mention the Stage 1+ issue with 02 models that causes a lean code and whenever I spoke with APR they seemed to have their thumbs up their ass.
I am not trying to be rude to you, I have just had many, many frustrations with that company and would hate to see the same happen to someone else.

I always heard such good things about APR. And then.....

    - 2 snub mounts cracked
    - R1 DV seized
    - faulty chip
    - and then they would not warranty my snubs without me sending them in first... so basically i had to buy another one, take out the cracked one, and then send it away..

Nothing bad to say, fits great and price is right. MJM and Autobahn Exotics has them for sale.
I have it and love it. Works for 2002 as well as later models. Comes with a billet plug for the extra nipple depending on you application.

Those are pictures of the finished pipes. The only thing not shown are the silicone couplers that would be included.

Installed it would look pretty much exactly the same as my old JJ Tip.

I have the Forge TIP on my 2004. Took some time to get it, was 180$ Can. Does a great job, but wasn't quite plug&play. It would have rubbed on my passenger side light+holder so I had to trim a tab from the piece that holds the light. It would have worked I didn't want to risk cutting through it. Was also a pain to wiggle until it actually fit, it seemed a bit short.

I didn't have to trim anything with my Forge TIP. It went in about as easily as I could have imagined any other would. I called my friend to come over and help (not that the install really needed help...) and I was actually done before he even got there.

I have a 2004 too. You don't have to plug anything.

Well it is a tight fit but thats really just because of the area that it is in. Not much room to work with so its not a problem with the tip just the area it goes in.

Thanks for the info Winston. Do your current TIP offerings come with welds/rings at the ends of the hose connectors as Mike's (Jet Jockey) did? And do I recall an old AW or AZ thread, WAYYY back in the day, that you bought and use the jig setup that was used for Mike's TIP's when he offered them for sale? BTW....are you running your TIP or Mike's TIP?

Re: Looking for the right TIP (Turbo Inlet Pipe)

We did not buy the jig, we made a TIP of a different design which does pretty much the same thing.

We didn't ring/bead the end of the nipples as AFAIK the pipe isn't under any pressure since the air is being sucked in from it so it would be pretty much impossible to blow a hose off. If the customer really wanted a bead it can be added.

I am not running any of the TIPs shown or the old JJ TIP. I have a custom TIP made for my 3076 setup which might be deleted since I plan to run a MAF-less software file.

Re: Looking for the right TIP (Turbo Inlet Pipe)

    Don't get me wrong:
1- The TIP would have worked without any trimming, but I have a high stress level so I wanted to be 100% sure no problem would appear later
2- The trimming was very easy with a dremel and does not affect the headlight at all.

Well I have decided I want a hard TIP. So my choices are the following. Honestly I am between Winstons and the ATP unit. Comments?

    Winstons $340

    O.CT $370

    ATP $260
