    7 quarts... Are you serious?

I just did my first oil change today. I have driven 4k miles already and felt unsure about the previous owner so i just went ahead and took it in. I know the people who owns the shop I go to so I don't have any concerns of a crappy job being done on my car. They le me take my own parts while labor cost me $10 just because I'm lazy and it's too damn humid here. I had the motor flushed and put in fresh Valvoline Synpower full synthetic 5w30. The filter was a Fram but if you open it up and look at the filter, it says Mann and it's black with foreign writing all over it. I'm assuming this is an OEM filter because I work at Checker Auto and all 3 filters of this part number has the same filter in it. The part number is PH8994. I thought 6 quarts was going to be enough but i was wrong and shocked to see it took a whole 7 quarts to fill this thing up. Is this normal? My ride is an 02' 3.0 v6.

    sounds about right.

I've changed the oil in my car 3 times since i bought it, and each time 7 quarts went in. Got my next oil change coming up in like a 1000 miles. I get my oil changed at a very clean shop, they handle everything very professionally and I like to think everything is being done properly. After all, I've changed oil there 3 times now and all seems fine, no visible engine trouble.

Yup, still better than a 3.2 at just a butt hair over 8 liters if you let drain for several hours.

it's fine. why are you shocked that 1 more quart of oil?
more oil is there for good and I don't mean flood the engine.

It could always be worse...P-cars take like 9.5-10 qts... so don't feel so slighted

I guess it's just that I had never had to put in 7full quarts in a single oil change before. Even my 6.1 liter SRT8 didn't take this much, if I remember correctly.

Yep, my '84 Carrera (3.2L) holds a maximum of 12 quarts. With an oil change, I usually replace 9.5 quarts. The reason being is that oil cooler is in the front right fender. It's a dry sump system too, so it has a oil tank and oil in the sump.

    Sorry for the OT...

German engineer designed it this way, to have more oil in the engine is better than less oil because they know some people dont check the damn oil level

    LOL! That's a good one.

One reason for the amount of oil in my 911 (and all other 'air cooled' cars) is for cooling. After all, it's really an oil cooled car. Air blows over the oil cooler and cools the oil...

Re: 7 quarts... Are you serious?

well the dealer say come back in 10000 miles for your next oil change, majority of the owner never pop their hoods unless they have to. if you have 4 quarts of oil, it will burn down progressively.
whatever the theory is, I dont give a damn. more oil is good for all the good reason as long as it's not flooding the engine.
