    So wednesday

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
my car goes to our local audi stealership (Schmitts Audi) where she's going to get her turbo looked at (hopefully CPO replaced).

in the event they dont want to replace under warranty, there is no way im paying them to replace it.

my problem is should i just do another k03 and tune, etc. or should i go k04?
i also have no intention of going BT.

moral of the story....is going k04 even worth it?

    Re: So wednesday

Most people say you will get bored with the K04 and want a BT, but its up to you, will 260+hp be enough to satisfy you? Of course, you will need the exhaust, fmic, etc. I know it would satisfy me, i dont wanna kill myself with a bt lol. Too much power for me, i guess not for some though.

    Re: So wednesday

i dont drive the car enough to want/need BT/BAT or anything more than a k04.

now mind you, the car 100% stock right now, so anything would be an improvement for performance. BUT is the extra $ you spend on k04+fmic, etc., etc. worth like 45hp that i would gain as opposed to doing the basic chip, exhaust etc?

what about GTRS? I think there are a couple of relatively cheap kits out there that shouldn't run much more than a K04 setup.

    Re: So wednesday

Well anything is a big improvement from the stock power which really sucks. I have APR 1+ now and it was huge over stock. The numbers are 235hp/275lb-ft but yea 30-40hp is a big difference too between that and the k04, I guess is comes down to how much power will you be happy with, what can you afford, what are you willing to spend, whats your agenda: do you want to shut up those ricer Si's, WRX's, RSX's, etc. or just almost keep up with them, or do you even care?

if you dont want to spend a fortune but get a little more punch, put in a new k03 and tune it, and then do all the minor things here and there to increase horsepower. most efficient way assuming its a regular DD that doesnt see the track or anything

    Re: So wednesday

Disconnect the top oil feed line to the turbo and it'll start "making some noise", just make sure you reconnect it before you bring it back to the shop ;)

But really, i'm assuming it's still making the noise you are concerned about, can you get a sound clip of it by chance so we can hear what it is doing? a dying turbo sounds like a loud dentists drill, trust me i know from experience.

    Re: So wednesday

    no dentist drill effect.
    its goes whooooosh...clank

they rev'd it up took it for a few test drives and no noise.
my friend works there who has heard it before and they couldnt get it to make noise, so no dice.

    Re: So wednesday

clank is typical metal on metal, dying turbo is a whistle/squeel/drill sound from the turbine rubbing on the housing while it's spinning, no loud CLANK.

what makes you think it's the turbo?

    Re: So wednesday

My problem with going BT/BAT is that those setups don't seem to last very long. Every other post for awhile was reading "Blew up my motor!" I'm going to stick with the K03 until my car isn't a DD any more.
