    Question Small problem turning BIG!?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
so as some might remember, i posted the other day that my 30v 2.8 was expiriencing some fluctuations in the coolant temp readout.

as i wait for my new coolant temp sensor to arrive, the problem seems to have worsened.

as of today, my car doesnt just run a little bit hot, it runs hotter and hotter the longer the car is running...so much so that i saw the temp warning light come on twice on my way home from work.

one other thing that i am noticing is that when the temp guage goes about 3/4, my oil temp goes up a bit into the 250 range.

i am hoping that this coolant temp sensor will solve all but these new problems are scaring me...BTW i do have coolant in the car and have no other ideas as to why this is happening

    any hints or advice?

    Re: Small problem turning BIG!?

Did you put in the green coolant or was it green when you bought it?

Why I ask is, I ran into problems similar to yours because the PO didn't flush the OE G12 before filling it with green coolant. A complete coolant flush got rid of my problems.

    Try flushing the coolant.

The way I did it was flush all the crap coolant out and then run a couple gallons of distilled water through it and drain it again. Then add G12 or the green stuff.

I'm guessing your fan is not kicking in??? If anything turn on the a/c so that both fan's are running this should help little bit to cool down the car.

Yes go get yourself G12+ and change your coolant

    Re: Small problem turning BIG!?

since your oil temps are rising, I would say the engine actually is running too hot.

Does the coolant temp ever get too high when driving at freeway speeds? If it still does, its not the fans.

The heaters like a little radiator and helps draw heat away from the engine. That tells me most likely your water pump is doing its job.

Now what about on the freeway < please see my earlier post.....

    Hahaha!

If it is heating up on the highway that means no coolant is flowing so it can't be cooled off. Since no coolant is flowing your water pizzump may be baaad. Or sludged up because of a mix of 2 coolants. Flush it first because that is the cheapest option, like $10. If that doesn't fix it, water PUMP!

Let's just clarify that G12 is more like $24. Honestly, I doubt there is any real reason to run G12 but I'd rather be a sucker and not have to worry about it.

I have to fix my dad's A4 because he mixed coolants and it's sludged. We were thinking it's the thermostat but maybe it's just sludge? I think I may just replace his Tstat anyways because it's only $20.

    Re: Small problem turning BIG!?

i was hoping it might not be the water pump but ill try flushing the coolant first and see what happens...

i know im supposed to use 1 part coolant per 1 part water, but how much of each does that equal to?

I never said to run G12. You can run straight water....
