I am possibly going to trade my 2001 A4 in on one tonight... I cannot find too many reviews on this car or specs... What do you guys think of them?

edit: maybe I should actually contribute...

The only person I know who owns a Lincoln is my grandmother (I'm not joking here), and I know hers (she has had many) have never been very reliable. The V8 is a "Jaguar" design which I just read has had problems in the past (Lincoln had to replace customer's failed motors). To me that implies the design flaws of a British car with the awful build quality of an American car. In my opinion, the body looks like what you'd end up with if you tried to make a Lincoln Towncar resemble a BMW 5 series. Really the first thing I was thinking was a V8 would be the last thing I'd buy right now, not only in terms of how much fueling it would cost, but also as an investment. Gas prices will likely never decrease significantly, and $7/gallon has been projected for next summer. Good luck ever selling that car!

I'm sorry if I've been off-topic because this information is my subjective and biased insights on the car. It doesn't even come in a manual! I think I am just heavily biased against American cars; I would never give them my money. Just my opinion though!

Re: What do you guys think of 2000-2002 Lincoln LS V8's?

The biggest down check I can give them is in handling and performance. They're quite slow, and the first time you corner hard, you'll miss your Audi, especially if you are coming from a Quattro. I am always amazed at how little power American engines produce for their size. The LS V8 is a 3.9L that produces only 252hp and 261lb-ft of torque. The Europeans get that sort of power out of 3.0L V6's...

Also note that Lincolns are notorious for their poor reliability, and the LS in particular is not stellar on that end.

For a couple of grand more than you would spend on the Lincoln you can get a very good BMW 330i sedan the same age, which I would MUCH rather have.

For that matter, the same money will also buy you an 1997 or 1998 M3 sedan in beautiful condition, a car which I very highly recommend...
    The Cars:
2004 Audi S4 (Black and Black)
1995 BMW ///M3 (Black and Black)

Three cowboys were hanging out in the bunkhouse. "I know that smart aleck Tex," said the first. "He's going to start bragging about that new foreign car he bought as soon as he gets back."

"Not Tex," the second cowboy replied. "He'll always be just a good ol' boy. When he walks in, I'm sure all he'll say is hello."

"I know Tex better than either of you," said the third. "He's so smart, he'll figure out a way to do both. Here he comes now." Tex swung open the bunkhouse door and shouted, "Audi, partners!"

Re: What do you guys think of 2000-2002 Lincoln LS V8's?

Well, I was impressed with the 3.0L Lincoln LS that I test drove... I want more power so I figure the V8 will kick that up just a bit more... Then again, I haven't touched the V8... Right now I am looking for an AMERICAN family car... I have major back/hip problems and don't need a sporty ride anymore... I will only drop the car and put a CAI and suttle exhaust on it... Just to bring out the V8 sound... My performance needs will come from my wifes Magnum R/T... That thing is well built and handles just as well as my Audi, plus it feels more stiff than the Audi, thanks to Mercedes inspired design... Not to mention, the motor has "some" mods that will put a smile on anyones face... The torque is unbelieveble!

What reliability issues have you heard of? The only ones I have found were the valve cover gaskets are known to fail...

You should really test drive a BMW. Honestly, I don't think I'll be buying another Audi, I am so impressed with BMWs. My mother has a 2003 BMW 530i now with 140,000 miles and let me tell you, the car drives and feels like the day she brought it home 5 years ago. It is SO smooth and comfortable, unlike the A4 (B5 anyways). I just replaced all of my control arms and this is the first time my B5 A4 has felt even remotely smooth, but honestly, the A4 is just too small and light of a car to feel entirely solid. The BMW really is designed to do 130 mph+ on the Autobahn day in and day out and I would feel comfortable doing it. It's almost scary because you can driving in the fast lane only to look down and realize you're going 100+ mph. I usually think of it as feeling like a Crown Vic than can take a highway off-ramp at 60 mph. This 530i has a 3.0L inline 6 making 225HP, and I can tell you my mom gets a combined 24.2 mpg (off the the onboard computer), and that includes equal amounts of driving in Boston and driving on the highway home. She has a pretty heavy foot. My dad's '01 A4 1.8T 170HP gets 23.9 mpg according to the computer. The BMW has been a very reliable car. The only thing she has replaced out of warranty were the rotors once, which is obviously a normal wear item. The only "problem" it has is it burns (not leaks) a fair bit of oil. She usually has to add a quart every couple months. She had the seals looked at and the dealer said they were fine. I think high compression engines just burn a lot of oil. BMW warranties are really superb... I'm pretty sure even oil changes were covered. I'd really look into getting a certified pre-owned BMW with 100,000 mile warranty.

My dad also has a B5 A4 and when he goes to pick up my 90 year old grandmother who has osteoporosis (several fractured vertebrae), he takes the BMW because she can't ride in the Audi. Really the only thing Audi has going for it in my books is Quattro. I would say Audi has the advantage of turboed cars as well, but many of the new BMWs have turbos now (like the 135i, 3.0L Inline 6 turbo, 300HP for just under $35k msrp).

Anyways, I'm not trying to dissuade you from buying an American car.. obviously it affects me in no way. Just saying my family has had a lot more luck with BMW and you should consider it if it's an option for you

seriously dude, a lincoln? are you fucking 75? Who cares if you have hip/ back problems? way to act like a 75 year old. Live life up while you can, no matter what the condition, you deserve it. A lincoln is definitely not living it up... BMW on the other hand, is ballin!

Hahahaha, that's what I would have said if I didn't know what euphemism was. But in all seriousness, no one should buy a certain car because it's "socially accepted;" that's bullshit. Get whatever you want and don't let anyone give you shit for it!

At least I am not buying a Honda? Now a Lincoln Town Car, I can see that as a geezer car, but an LS... C'mon, they have somewhat BMW styling...

Re: What do you guys think of 2000-2002 Lincoln LS V8's?

a lincoln is a lincoln. I prefer to have a car with a not-so-geezer name behind it, but if you're into the lincoln get it.

bascially what i was saying, is that he comes from a car that has a background for making great, well tuned automobiles, and is transferring to Lincoln, a historic, but rather... old car company, in both age and cars. they shoot for an older demographic, which is why they dont really have any, what us youngins would consider to be "cool cars". To me and 90% of younger people, a lincoln is an old fogie car, no matter how "tricked" it is or what model. I dont have a problem with this dude getting it, im just stating my opinion on what i think of lincoln.

Re: What do you guys think of 2000-2002 Lincoln LS V8's?

I actually considered buying a Lincoln LS because I loved the body so much. Looks nice and solid, just like most american cars. What disappointed me was the lack of a rear seat, so small, especially with the transmission taking up the entire middle row foot well. True they only come in manual for the 6 cylinder, but as most american cars made, the smaller engine is the crappier engine. The v8 is the one with true power.

Only american car I know where smaller engine was better was the 6 cylinder engine from a jaguar. Those things last forever and take bullets. Their 8 cylinders, crap.

    Slow,can't handle,blows in the snow.
I raced my boys V8 in my MR2 supercharged which was "slightly tweaked" and he was outta sight after hitting the the redline at 145ish and that was on a 13.9 car. Slow as shit it was. I had to pick him up and drive him to work in the MR2 because his Lincoln got stuck in the snow all the time. ONly thing its got is its interior is nice.

Please look at the RESALE of these cars. They have one of the worst resale values ever.
Even after less than year old, the car lost over half it's value. Please check because i considered them when they first came out and ran away from them when a dealer friend of mine said they could not give these cars away. good luck.

I looked at these cars before I found my S4, about 3 seconds. I wanted something practical, luxurious and powerful. Americans are not good at this. Take our word.

I'd have to say Americans are good at it, just not some companies... Maybe I'll just go ahead and get my 300C... The Lincoln I looked at last night was a rust bucket and ran like shit... So yeah, I will stray away from them... Some guy wants to trade his 74 Nova with a 383 stroker, so that is making me happy

Re: What do you guys think of 2000-2002 Lincoln LS V8's?

I acutally like the Lincoln LS. One of my cousins has the a 2001 Lincoln LS V8, very roomy and comfortable. I have taken plenty of lil weekenders out with his ride and I like the seating (not too closterfobic at all). Look at this way with AMERICAN cars their parts are plenty. Maintanance is too bad at all especially coming from an Audi. Hey, if gas isnt an issue especially is your looking at the V8 and your not looking for a quick little sports car then I say go ahead. That V8 is pretty strong and can definitly get you from point "A" to "B" with comfortability.
