    Passenger's door half dead??

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just noticed today that my passenger's door is "half dead" --> When it opens, or when its wide open, it does not give me a signal on the dashboard that the door was opened. All the 3 other doors are fine and when opened I get the "door open" signal on the dash. Not this one. I am calling it half dead because the Window, Lock/Unlock buttons do work on that door. Also, I noticed that the Lights (the red one and the white one) are not ON when the door is open. Its as if the car does not even know the door was open. Any body experienced this before? I rather know myself how to fix it if possible.

Worse case scenario I can take it to the dealer and they can fix it when I bring it next time since am still under extended warranty. I usually give them a list of at least 5 things before I make a visit :) I make my $100 deductible really worth it before a visit

No one had this issue before? lol is it only me who has weird stuff with his A4?!

There is also this weird noise, comes from front passenger's side, around the glove compartment area, and it sounds like when the printer do those mechanical noises after finishing printing some papers... as if some electronic thing going on there. It almost sounds like when you lock/unlock the car, but much less loud, but still obvious. Happens when the car is switched ON but the engine is turned off. Weird.

the wires fray on the inside of the door from opening and closing so frequently. You have to pull it apart cut and resolder the wires.

    Thanks.

I thought about that, BUT: are not the wires for the Window and lock buttons also with the same set of wires coming from the car to the door? Any DIY for this?

I dont want the dealer to work on this and scratch all the leather on my door like they did before. Man, when those Audi technicians work on a vehicle, they just scratch the heck outta the interior like its their enemy's car. They once scratched off the paint outta my Window buttons. I was so pissed that they ended up taking a set of buttons from a 2004 and put it on mine.

I doubt its the wires, unless they pulled out of the respective harnesses.

There is actually a very in-genius design behind the harness that runs into the door from the car. It is sorta like a quick connect harness but it also runs through and holds the boot in place. Sometimes, and I did have this issue, if the harness gets pushed into the door frame or the harness gets kicked or something it can eventually loosen it up to where the movement of the car or even a person getting in and out will make the contacts inside the harness disconnect from one another. I ended up taking my entire door apart to find out that I just had to click the harness back in tighter. I would check there first.

It is a pain in the ass to put the boot back over the clip that holds it to the car, so when you are done put the boot around the clip then push the clip back into the door frame and it will lock into place.

Also, this is a common issue if you might have had any door speakers or any aftermarket alarm installed in the car, both situations would end up with them running wires into the door and may not have put the harness back in tight enough.

    Hope this helped.
